New Powerbook Audio Stutter / Looping / Echo problem

I've been trying all my provoking tricks for a good hour now, but no loops. Tied the poor thing in knots a few times though. I guess you can only have so many different audio programmes running before the lot will hang!

This is looking good, just hope I havent spoken too soon.

Additionally I have noticed that I cannot get the balance in sound prefs to shift when I rapid toggle the volume keys. Perhaps that was where the fault was all along.

If this is the end of our lively thread, may I add that it has been a pleasure reading everybody's thoughts and rants! Lets hope we meet again under more favourable circumstances.

If this really is the fix (which it looks like it is), do you think with equal complaining we could get a display replacment program? The horizontal banding problem is very disapointing considering the cost of this computer!

I would think that would be classified under defective hardware. I would insist on a repair.

I have a 17 incher (ooeer!) so am not plagued by this. If I were I wouldnt tolerate it.

From a health and safety point of view, a defective, flickering or visually distracting/disturbing display will lead to eye damage through eye strain. Insist on it being fixed.

If you are an employer, and your empoyees had to use your PowerBook, they could sue you under health and safety regs in the UK for this fault if it lead to eye strain. Flickering can also lead to Photo Sensitive Epilepsy attacks, potentially fatal!

Well guys, it has been several hours and no reports of this problem. Even some of my old tricks to provoke the problem aren't working anymore.

I have been subscribed to this topic for a VERY long time and every day my Inbox would be filled with pleas for help, possible solutions, and calls to action. Thanks to all those who participated and helped spread the word.
I think this may [finally] be the end of our horrific past few months experience.

In other news:
I tried to spread the word at TUAW and a user is lambasting me over the linkage to the powerbookdefect.info website in my comment. "Mac Diva" as he calls himself is contorting our pleas for help into a Scam for MacBook Pros. If you have the time, please set him straight and let him know that this (was) a very real problem.

Thanks to all of you who stood up and got this terrible issue resolved. It's a shame this is what it took to get Apple's attention. But as they say, "By any means necessary!"

The one on the web site is probably a universal update, for both Intel and PPC Macs, so it contains all of the updates. The one through Software Update just downloads the updates for the PPC version.

Downloaded 10.4.5 while playing a little Bob James James James James...music. We'll see. Thanks to all who added their voices and keystrokes in this effort. Let's keep Apple on their toes.

I can't believe it!!! I was so depressed thinking I have flushed 2000 U$S I just hope that was our only surprise on this whole PB HR thing.

Out of curiosity I opened up the installer package with Pacifist, to have a look.

Quite a few new kernel extensions, some power management (CPU speed controll perhaps?) and a new AppleFileSystemDriver.

I know little about this stuff, but I would like to know what the specific thing is that has cured this problem.

Anyone with knowledge and Pacifist like to have a look at the installer??

Anyway, it still seems fine, so Im away to catch up on some work.

I'm really glad that this problem is finally solved. I had 2 problems, this echo problem and a display with the lineproblem. My display was fixed last week, so I have a perfect powerbook now 🙂 (finally)
But calling with AppleCare has costed me €66,-!(in 1 month!) Do you guys think I can claim that money back? Because Apple promissed me several times things they couldn't deliver, so that forced me to call them back everytime.

Problem seems solved after 10.4.5, no bug whatsoever for a day now with extensive use of iTunes along with multiple audio softwares running simultaneuously. Hurray !!!!

It seems like the echo has been fixed since d/l 10.4.5 but I just notice that I also lost the ability of listen to some sound content on the web like Flash movies stream and sound alerts on Word Office. Anyone noticing the same problem?!
