I think it's a bunch of crap that they shipped units to the stores... those of us that pre-ordered should get the units FIRST, then un-allocated units can be shipped to the stores later. WTH is the point in pre-ordering? It's not even logical. The rep. today said that "because pre paid orders came in two waves...those prior to april 15th, which those people have their for first production and those after april 15th which will be by may 7th. The stores were in the first round of production." ... ummm so stores have to pre-order too? I just don't see the point in pre-ordering if someone on the street can get their hardware even before those of us that willingly agreed to purchase it in advance...

Last night I saw that mine was 'prepared to ship' and this morning it is at FedEx awaiting dispatch out of China. I ordered on April 20 so this is part of the 'second batch'. The tracking notice from Fed Ex at this point says May 7 by 12 PM but the email from Apple says by May 10...so we will see!

Have already downloaded some true iPad apps, will have camera connection kit and case tomorrow. Already have dock and AV cable so I will be ready to go. It is my birthday present to myself!

Can hardly wait to join the fun!

I am, knock on wood, getting mine tomorrow (May 7th). My FedEx tracker was very odd this time. There was no indication it ever left China. There was no indication it arrived in Alaska or left there. The only notice I got after in transit in China was customs clearance (Int'l Shipment Release) in Memphis ! Now about 2pm it indicates it left Memphis. Hope that helps

Update May 7th
Last night showed left Memphis about 9pm yeh ! That ment it should be in my city in about five hours from past experience. By 2am no notice. Got up at 4 am to check; no change. was all excited that by eight am or so would see in my city and out for delivery notice. Nope. By eight thirty got notice that it had just hit town. Since can take hours to get processed and on the truck and must happen by seven thirty or so to get it same day I was all bummed that would probably have to wait until Monday the 10 th to get it. My only hope seemed to be they were skipping some updates and that it might be already out for delivery.

I waited until the last moment before leaving my house for work and checked again. It had got on a truck and was out for delivery just minutes before that and half an hour or less from arriving in town.

Talk about snoopy dance ! I will have it for the week end !

Arrived where I work by 10:30 am Had to wait until 10 pm tonight to activate it. Dinner with the boss and I am not talking my employer If you know what I mean. Exelent meal ! And then TO THE PAD !!!!!!!!

I am writing this on the iPad and loving it !
To speed up activation don't sync all your stuff just a few things e.g., a few songs and an app or two.
What a long wait to get an iPad 3G! Seemed like a year ( was about a month and a half). What a strange FedEx track !
But I Got it, I Got it,

Apple is as good to me as gold ! I can count on them and in this silly world that is really saying something.
