no, it's not. your partner drops the file(s) in the *dropbox folder* on his machine and, within minutes, they will appear in yours - fully browsable/editable. plus, it works cross-platform.

interesting, but dont I still need to DOWNLOAD the files to my hard drive on my computer before I can edit?
think of
dropbox as a
syncing tool. the
downloading is done automatically. all you have to do is to double-click on your dropbox folder and the content is available.
1) Put the files in /Users/hisaccount/Public
2) Enable File Sharing (System Preferences -> Sharing)
3) Note his IP address (System Preferences -> Network) and e-mail the IP address to you
Once he has done that, you should:
1) Under Finder's Go menu, select Connect to Server
2) Enter
afp://11.22.33.44 (or whatever his IP address is)
3) Browse his public folder for the files
4) Drag them to your Desktop or desired location to make your own copy of them.
10GB is a lot of data to send over the internet. Depending on the upload speed of his internet connection it might just be faster to burn a few DVDs and send them to you by express mail.
we have some fast connections. if left all day I can get maybe 10 GB a day. Does this method you show make it into a real FTP? Why is the address afp and not ftp?
