iPad WiFi and Verizon MiFi Hotspot

I started using the Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot with my 32GB iPad today. Works like a charm. I used it with my iPad, Windows 7 netbook and iTouch simultaneously. I authorized it on the Windows 7 machine. I need to try to install Verizon Manager on my MacBooks and authorize it for them so that I can use it untethered and off the MiFi's battery.

This is interesting. I was wondering how the mobile wifi's worked with the iPad. I'm about to get the Verizon Palm Pre Plus because its a mobile Hotspot. I just wanted to know if anyone else is doing this as well. With all the wifi problems I have been reading about iScared!

How is the speed of the MiFi? I'm sure the Palm Pre Plus would run about the same speed (being on the same network)

Update. Verizon MiFi would probably not work well for me in my office, except in an emergency, . Speedtest.net gives me .5mb/sec download and .08 upload vs. 10.28 and 1.01on my iTouch/iPad from my Charter router. The same on the Windows 7 netbook, tethered or untethered. We're located in a forested area where mobile phone and Blackberry is very good but apparently not so for the MiFi.

VA Access Manager on the netbook says that the MiFi is connected with full (5) bars. I'll test and compare with the 720 USB stick later. I still need to do speed tests on the road.

i can not make the Verizon mifi 2200 hotspot work with the iPad. The iPad finds the MiFi network and seems to connect fine, eg under Settings it shows it is connected under the WiFi icon. But none of the programs (safari, iTunes App store etc) is able to connect. The iPad comes with a message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". Does anybody have sam eproblem or an idea how to solve it? Verizon and the apple store are clueless.

wifi is much, much faster than cell network. wifi is 54Mbps. Verizon 3G data is ~2Mbps max.
The Mifi converts the wifi to cell. (fast to slow)
Your router converts the wifi to broadband. (fast to faster)

The max speed you can get is whatever is the slowest speed.

I have a MiFi too (from the 3Gstore). Works absolutely great with all my devices (iPad, iPhone 4, Sony laptop). Speeds vary by location, obviously, but the signal strength is very solid, with no drops so far.

The connection problem mentioned by poster Nielsen is almost certainly due to not having gone through the "activation" process on the VZ Manager. If the MiFi isn't activated you will see that your devices are connected but you still won't have access to the Internet through the connection. You MUST activate that connection (i.e., Verizon confirms that your MiFi is registered with them and you have purchased a data plan with them).

Just got a mifi, too, and it is a great relief and gets me off stupid satellite internet. But I have the same issue with one computer. It works great for the ibook and the two powerbooks we used on it, but I cannot get my mac mini to get on. I get bars and lots of indicators that it's connected - even some email came in on it (go figger), but we cannot get web pages to load. I was told at Verizon that only one computer needed to activate the mifi, and we did all that at the Verizon store, so it shouldn't need any further activation or VZ Manager interaction. I sure would like an answer, though. This is my husband's computer and he is not a happy puppy.
