Integrating iPod touch in an air vent

I would like to integrate my iPod touch in my car. Something like this:

I would connect the headphones output to my radio aux input and the usb plug to the lighter.

My questions are:

1) How do I turn on and off the iPod if only the screen is visible?
2) How do I handle the menus? It looks like I can only scroll the albums in this menu http://www.creativecreature.ca/blogs/creativecreature/ipodtouch/ipod_touchhorizontal.jpg
