Firewall keeps asking permission for iTunes

I have the following happening, everytime I start iTunes: My Firewall, the one in Mac OS 10.6.3 (turned on), keeps asking me if i want to give permission to iTunes to allow for incoming connections. I answer with yes, and iTunes appears in the Firewall preferences screen as being accepted. But every following time i open iTunes, I get the same question.

iTunes works fine, but this is just annoying. I tried restarting the Firewall, adding the programs manually, same result.
As I think the Firewall should be on, this will just keep happening and in time will really start to annoy me.
Does anyone have this same problem, and more importantly,... does anyone have a solution??

Kind regards, Peter

Hi,
I have had this problem in the past, and reinstalling iTunes fixed it for me.

To reinstall iTunes follow Apple's Instructions

Ignore the section that reads:

+"Additionally, you may need to remove files and folders associated with iTunes. Use the following steps to remove these files and folders."+

Skip to the end of the article to find a link to the latest version of iTunes.

Regards

IMHO, you don't need your software firewall running on your Mac. if you connect via an Apple router (airport extreme or time capsule) it comes with a hardware firewall.

secure your network with WPA2 and choose a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers - as good as it gets security wise.

if you're out and about and connecting via e.g. a hotspot @ starbucks, the firewall may be useful but @ home ...

I have this problem as well ... I also have Time Capsule at the office and at home .. but yes, I am connecting all over the world when travelling to other wireless systems .. I WANT MY LOCAL FIREWALL to work ... why would I shut it off? I have deleted the plist and restarted the system, re allowing all softwares, but that does not seem to work in this case. Anyone have a solution?

I'm also encountering this same behavior. iTunes is the only program that keeps asking for permission, everything else works just fine.
Turning off the firewall is not an acceptable answer. First off, something is obviously not working right and needs to be fixed. Second, while I'm relatively safe at home behind a NATing SOHO router, I also use my MacBook Pro on a university campus, at airports, in coffee shops etc. where I really would like to have a proper firewall in place.

Hi,

i activated the firewall yesterday and every time i opened itunes it wanted me to allow itunes.app etc like u guys
tech support guy been working on it for a day or two and says traced to
itunes/system preferences/devices and had to untick box "look for ipod, iphone ipad remotes" and click on forget remotes
tried itunes no problem, then ticked it again and click ok and no further problem until activate remote app again by passcode etc

so if you dont want it to keep asking you to allow access u need to forget remotes

so i assume this only affects people who use apple remote app ?

maybe thats why reinstalling itunes worked till remote library is used again i reckon
been escalated to engineers i believe

I have had the same problem, and in my estimation, it started with the iTunes update that included Ping. I have Ping turned off, and I get the same question everytime I launch iTunes. Quite annoying! I too have my firewall enabled and need it on at all times as I travel regularly. I have tried disabling the 'look for iPhone/iPad remotes' in the devices area of iTunes preferences, but that did not solve the problem for me. Coincidentally, my Airtunes setup was working fine (iPhone as Remote) until recently. A related problem?

My next approach will be to reinstall the software. However, the MBP is going in for service today anyway, so will wait until it's returned. Other solutions welcome! Strange that it's happening for some folks but not many. Or at least not many that are reading/posting here.

Am having the same problem. Unfortunately your suggested approach has not worked for me. May be one day (seems this problem is 2 years old) the right decision maker on the gives priority to have this fixed?!!!
iTunes probably is one of the most used apps so it is hard to understand and accept that this keeps bugging users for years...

Yes, that seems to be a reliable fix, as per:

[iTunes keeps asking to allow or deny incoming connections|http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/19/itunes-keeps-asking-to-allow- or-deny-incoming-connections>

(I've seen that approach work on Snow leopard systems as well as Leopard systems, several times now.)
