CoreAudioToolbox.dll crash on 5.1 sound

Ever since iTunes 9.1 was released I have been unable to enjoy 5.1 surround sound on iTunes. If i am watching something that has a 5.1 stream and select it iTunes crashes. This was never an issue before.

I have my audio going from optical out to my surround sound amp. No changes were made to the software on my machine except updating iTunes.

Ordinarily this wouldn't be too much of a problem but if i select 5.1 for an episode or film and iTunes crashes there is no going back. 5.1 then comes the default for that file and i cant play it.

Has anyone else seen this. I posted on neowin.net and found a few people running windows 7 64bit who have had the problem but i haven't heard much.

I was hoping that the recent update 9.1.1 would fix the problem. Its still the same. Probably because the both use the same version of the "CoreAudioToolbox.dll"

When I open a movie and select "Surround Sound" iTunes also crashes on my notebook as well. It crashes and I have to select close. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Glad I am not the only one with this problem, hopefully Appledoes something about it.

I've tried everything to fix it that I've read on other forums but to no avail.

It used to work, even for a bit after update, then stopped. I've replaced my audio drivers 3x over now as well to try and cover all my bases.

Well, being the Sherlock Holmes that I am, I decided that it may have something to do with my audio drivers. (They weren't supplied by the company that makes the chipset/card, I had been using 3rd party drivers.) So, I decided that I should try my original drivers supplied by Via. As an added precaution, I also removed Apple Application Support and then reinstalled iTunes. To my surprise, iTunes is working perfectly.

Well Eddie, you are one of the lucky ones.

I removed everything from apple as well. The Application Support, deleted all the the left overs manually, and then uninstalled my drivers. I made sure no third party drivers were present on my hard drive at all using a third party program (I tried once without the third party program as well). Needless to say, for me, it didn't work. I tried the original drivers, the newest drivers, and the drivers supplied by the manufacturer themselves.

Glad its working for you man.

I have had the same problem since 9.1 - pre 9.1 works perfectly. With every update I'm hopeful that they have fixed it - but there have been 2-3 updates since they broke it - no fix ... I'm beginning to thing its a ploy by apple to get people to buy apple tv - I dont want apple tv I have a perfectly working computer already set up just the way I want. everything on it works just fine except iTunes. Apple complained about flash being buggy on macs - the only buggy application I have on windows is iTunes. I have submitted a bug report with crash details - this was in April. In the hopes that it was possibly a driver problem, I replaced my xonar sound card with a creative card with 5.1 dolby digital live .. still had same problem. Its not a driver issue, its a itunes issue.

Please fix this...
