iTunes doesn't "see" iPad

I have a new Macbook Pro 2.66 / 8 GB, 15" and an iPad and an iPhone. The problem is that every now and then - about once a day or so, iTunes doesn't see the iPad or iPhone when they are plugged in. The device starts charging but there is no indication that a sync is occuring.

Following the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 I reinstall iTunes and replace the AppleMobileDevice kexts and then things are fine, but after another day or so the problem occurs again. I have not been able to determine what might be causing that. Any idea?

Apple does not seem to be watching this or they could/should have popped on here. This problem is not specific to iPad. I have the same problem with my iPad, iPhone and iTouch. It is a problem with iTunes and they are just ignoring it until the next dot release. Probably soon since they know about the problem, just ignoring us.

Hello, I experience the same problem. It is both not seeing my iPhone and my iPad. I had to reinstall serveral times and even lost a part of my data in this annoying process.

Thank you Apple to fix that as there is no other way for us to use your products. I cannot sync. my calender or other stuff without your software...

For the record, having the same problem here. iTunes on my macbook pro recognizes the iPad, but when I connect to Windows, the PC recognizes it as a camera and iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. This all just happened within the last few hours.

I had the same problem. I fixed it connecting iPad to an USB Port on the Motherboard (not using USB hub)!

I have 4 usb to iPod, iPhone, iPad and none of them is changing the situation. And for info, I re-installed iTunes for the 4th time yesterday and it worked well... until I reboot... now iTunes dont recognize anything anymore... (note that I carefully "ejected" my devices before closing iTunes yesterday...

This is crazy. This problem has been going on since April, and still no solution? I just got my ipad and am so disappointed in not only the fact that itunes doesn't "see" my ipad, but that on my first sync, it copied ALL of the apps on my computer, even my kids itouch apps. I've been using Apple's products for years with no complaints until now.

interesting question. I am an iphone dev, and during B3 of the SDK i could open my ipad in xCode, but now it wont see it. Is there an advisory I didnt read when i went to B4?

Edit to say, tried an itunes reinstall...now it works..and xCode works too.

Ongoing problem still..........reinstalled iTunes 2x now and both times it will recognize the iPad only the very first time. Go back a day later and no iPad. iTunes works fine but will not recognize the iPad. Have tried a reset, restore,still nothing.

What is up ???

Same issue here. iTunes cannot see my iPad at all; I get a spinning beach ball that never resolves (even overnight). I have deleted the appropriate library files and reinstalled iTunes 9.1.1 (build 12) twice and the song remains the same. My iPad is visible In the system profiler and my iPhone and iPods sync just fine. This is very frustrating as there are very many work arounds for moving content to and from the iPad if iTunes isn't working.

I am dealing with this exact same issue. I really hope a solution is worked out because it is beyond frustrating to have to reinstall iTunes over and over again.

The same here, reinstall and ok, reboot and itunes dont see iPad and iPhone. Waiting for the next version of iTunes!

I just spent 85 minutes on the phone with Apple tech support. There is a problem (duh!) with itunes 9.1.1 recognizing ipad when you have MAC OS X 10.6.3 ONLY after you shut down or restart your computer. So, until they come up with a new version of itunes (and they are working on it,) you either have to keep your computer in sleep mode or delete and reinstall itunes after you turn your computer back on. It's a real problem, but at least I have an answer and temporary solution.
