iTunes doesn't "see" iPad

I have a new Macbook Pro 2.66 / 8 GB, 15" and an iPad and an iPhone. The problem is that every now and then - about once a day or so, iTunes doesn't see the iPad or iPhone when they are plugged in. The device starts charging but there is no indication that a sync is occuring.

Following the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 I reinstall iTunes and replace the AppleMobileDevice kexts and then things are fine, but after another day or so the problem occurs again. I have not been able to determine what might be causing that. Any idea?

Macbook Pro 2.66 i7, 8 GB, 15", Mac OS X (10.6.3), iMovie 09, Aperture 3, Fuji Finepix HS10, iPad 64 Wifi, iPhone 3GS 32

The problem Is that since the ipad's release, apple has not created a new version of itunes. Downloading both the new version of Mac and newest version of itunes will cause confusion.
You must:
A. Download the latest version of Mac FIRST then the latest version of Itunes
B. If you already have the latest version of itunes but need to download the latest version of mac, after downloading the latest version of mac (Mac os x snow leopard), delete your version of itunes and REDOWNLOAD the itunes 9.1.

UPDATE:

If you install iTunes 9.1,1 (Again, and again, and again) ONLY check the "device" (dont reinstall iTunes App), the effect is the same, iPad/iPod/iPod sync correctly. After reboot the devices dont sync (Again). *Its not necessary reinstall all, only the infamous /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMovileDevice.kext .*

I try to protect the file, backup the file to copy again the "original" after a reboot.... nothing works, only reinstall the device in iTunes 9.1.1 dmg. But forget to uninstall plist, use unistallers, etc.... is the same, *reinstall only AppleMovileDevice.kext from the iTunes dmg.*

Apple, please, correct it.

I'm having the same problem everyone else is having - however, I don't believe that it is merely a 10.6.3+iTunes 9.1.1 problem.

I had that same software running on my late 2009 MBP, and had no problems. My brand new i5 MBP, however, is afflicted . . .

I rarely shut this machine down, though, so hopefully I won't have to install iTunes every single time I want to sync. {{crossing fingers and hoping for a fix from Apple soon}}

Sitting here in Apple Store (Santa Monica, CA), had appt with Genius Bar over this issue - basically they can't fix it.
Not an iPad issue - iPad tested fine.
iTunes will not see my iPhone either.
So now they said to do an archive and reinstall the OS, then make another appt with the Genius bar again fro the MBP.
So now there is no reason to use iTunes on this machine until the issue is resolved since it can't synch.

The only time it (iTunes) will "see" any of the devices is the very first time it is installed. As soon as the MBP is re-booted, it won't see anything.

Typical Apple "Bull----".........................wish they would at least admit there is a problem.

I'm wondering about the iPad aspect of it? I couldn't read my new iPad on a new MBP so I tried on an iMac that had an older version of iTunes (somewhere around version 8? Old.). No joy - didn't recognize the iPad in iTunes, but iPhoto saw it so I knew the device was alive and well.

Today, iTunes stopped seeing my iPhone, too, which required a re-installation of iTunes. Didn't see the iPad, either, so equal opportunity for everything. Heck if I know what the offending piece is - I just want it fixed.

I've just permanently bookmarked this link ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747) since it seems to be a weekly part of using these devices.

I don't know exactly what the problem is, but if you uninstall and reinstall itunes, everything will work... until you restart. I've been told by Apple tech that Apple is working on a new version of itunes to correct this. I'm leaving my computer in sleep mode when not in use and hoping that I don't need to shut down or restart until they get this fixed!!

I'm still having the issue with my 64GB WiFi model as well, and have not been able to get it fixed by unintalling and re-installing. Also, after moving the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg to Trash and emptying it after the reboot (like the directions say to) that PKG doesn't come back when I reinstall iTunes. Could that be part of the issue? Any way I can download that particular file?

Any other ideas? I'm contemplating wiping the iPad and trying again, but I'm afraid it won't sync then and I'll have to wait until the next version of iTunes is released...

Unfortunately iTunes 9.2 beta isn't working for me either, so I don't have a lot of faith that it will work upon official release. iTunes 9.2 beta was a last option after spending two full evenings trying everything everyone (including Apple) suggested.

Are you on the Dev release of 10.5.4 too? I'm not, so maybe it's the combo of 10.5.4 and iTunes 9.2 that do it...

Thanks for the help...

Ok found out what was causing my issue...my wireless connection. Details: I have both an iPhone and iPad. Neither was recognized by iTunes while at home. At work, while using my docking station, worked perfectly. So spent some time today troubleshooting. I unplugged my devices, turned my wireless card off, plugged devices back in and both synced up just fine. The difference at work is that I'm hardwired into my eth port at my desk and not using wireless. After iTunes began seeing both my devices, I turned my wireless card back on (devices still connected) and and it worked perfectly. Not sure what is causing it but I'm happy I found a work around. Anyone else want to try the same and see if it corrects yours?

Same old same old- Bought ipad couple weeks back. Was running 10.5.7 and had an issue with keychain which prevented installing any software iTunes latest version included. So while troubleshooting that issue I set up the ipad on a friend's Macbookpro to at least get some functionality out of it. I resolved the keychain/HD issues by reinstalling the OS (10.5.6) and then updating to 10.5.8.
Then downloaded iTunes 9.2. No go. Mac doesn't see the pad. Pretty * useless this is for such a fancy price. I see this has been going on for quite some and version 9.2 hasn't resolved it even after a totally clean OS install. I can still take it back.
