MBP 15" i7 wont automatically go to sleep

HI,

there are a few topics that have similar issues, but not exactly, so I'll start another one.

My new MBP core i7 2.66 with 8Gig of ram is unable to automatically go to sleep when on battery or when plugged in. It sleeps when selected from the Apple menu or when the lid is closed.. however when the time limit is reached in the Energy Saver prefs, the display will happily switch off but the machine will not sleep.

I have calibrated the battery, reset the SMC, it is a fresh clean install and I have turned off as many application and back ground apps that I can think of. No love.

Any ideas?

MBP Core i7 2.66 GHz 8GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Goto
Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Delete
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.AutoWake.plist
Reboot

Again set those preferences through "System Preferences"

Reboot again

Open a Terminal windows an type:

pmset -g

what are the results?

I haven't done the update yet, but I called Apple support the other day to let them know that when I am calibrating my battery, the warning message comes up as expected when it almost runs out, then, the computer actually shuts down instead of going to sleep (with the light pulsating). Instead, it seems to go into "safe sleep" mode. When it is charged back up, I see the safe sleep mode process when I start back up (a progress bar with blurry screen) and then all is normal. I was told by the tech that this was normal for the "newer MBP's." It will be interesting to see if yesterdays firmware update makes this different. However, I was at least told by AS that this behavior is normal.

OK. Something is really weird here. First of all OS X 10.6.5 didn't change a thing for me.

However, in the meantime I realized that my test system (blank installation of OS X) actually does go sleep. It takes approximately 5 minutes longer than it is supposed to.

So now I have to figure out what piece of software on my computer prevents my MBP from going to sleep. That probably means installing one program after the other on the second partition... Very dull.

Yet another MacBook with this problem -

This time a brand-new MacBook Air 13".

Symptoms are that it mostly but not always fails to sleep when lid open, regardless of whether it's plugged in.

One key symptom is the "com.apple.systempreferences[194]: Couldn't find any matches" message in the Console every time I try to edit energy saver settings.

Seems like this must be pointing at some root cause of the problem, but it's way beyond my skill to track this one down.

I found the culprit for me. If any of you have Nik Software or onOne Software plugins for Photoshop, the problem could be the licensing software they install behind the scenes.

This seemed to do the trick for me. Even after you uninstall these programs, it leaves behind the Protec6 folder in your Library, so you'll need to get rid of that and make sure Nalpierond6 is not running in your activity monitor.

If you use these programs, you may just have to live with the no sleeping behavior until this Nalpieron company gets their act together with software that does mess with the functionality of our systems.

Very odd thing happened...

I was using Safari and tried to play a video for a product on the Amazon site. My MBP completely locked up. Nothing worked except the mouse. I couldn't force quit, I couldn't go to finder, it was very weird. So I hard powered off my MBP and rebooted it. I, of course, then did repair disk permissions...something I do on a fairly regular basis. Rebooted computer after that and all is fine.

HOWEVER...NOW my MBP auto-sleeps!!! Huh!? I have tried many things before, including repairing permissions, with no success. I am completely confused unless there was some update somewhere that recently fixed my issue, but the Apple updates are nothing that big. I have all the same periphs attached, no new software, didn't uninstall anything, just very strange but glad it's fixed.

Very, very strange.
