MBP 15" i7 wont automatically go to sleep

HI,

there are a few topics that have similar issues, but not exactly, so I'll start another one.

My new MBP core i7 2.66 with 8Gig of ram is unable to automatically go to sleep when on battery or when plugged in. It sleeps when selected from the Apple menu or when the lid is closed.. however when the time limit is reached in the Energy Saver prefs, the display will happily switch off but the machine will not sleep.

I have calibrated the battery, reset the SMC, it is a fresh clean install and I have turned off as many application and back ground apps that I can think of. No love.

Any ideas?

MBP Core i7 2.66 GHz 8GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Goto
Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Delete
com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
com.apple.AutoWake.plist
Reboot

Again set those preferences through "System Preferences"

Reboot again

Open a Terminal windows an type:

pmset -g

what are the results?

Do you guys that did a clean install, use Disc Utility to reformat your had drive first? I did this with my new 15'' i7 Macbook Pro and it fixed my Energy Saving problems.

Seems like you have to do a clean re-install of OS X (not archive and install). I'm assuming these machines do some sort of batch install when they are loaded from the factory. There must have been some slight difference between the OS that comes pre-installed on the machines and what is on the restore disc.

My symptoms were the same as what you all are describing. After restarting, all energy saving functionality would be fine for several hours. After the machine was on for about 10-12 hours, the energy saving functionality stopped working.

I went back to the Apple store and described what was going on, they said they haven't heard of anything like this, but then again the computers have only been out for a week at the time I went in. They offered to replace the machine if the clean OS install didn't work...

Hope this works for you guys!

Sorry to hear that! Are you still within your two week period to exchange the machine? If your outside of the two week window and they refuse to give you a new machine I would still bring it into the genius bar so that they can document what is going on. The more the engineers at Apple hear about this problem, the faster a firmware or software update will be released.

Same here:

Brand new 15" i7 MBP

Tried:
- New account
- SMC reset
- PRAM reset
- Deleting com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
No luck :[

Considering the number of posts on that, it looks like we have a real bug here.

On last question just to make sure: Does anyone use the WesternDigital Smarttools?

Not me.. I'm convinced we have a proper bug here, but I'm hesitant to return my macbook since it seems its widespread.

I just wondered how many of us used migration assistant, as I noticed some of my safari prefs got a bit screwed when bringing my preferences over from my iMac alu.

Either way, I doubt this is related to that either, as I've tried clearing all related things to fix it, had it been a plist/pram kinda config issue.

Again, I suggest as many people report this via Genius Bar / Feedback page to ensure Apple pick this up in the next update. I even tried letting some Apple blogs know as anything that gets this issue noticed is worth while from our perspective.

Thanks
M
