iPad 3G ATT Activation with PO Box on Credit Card?
My credit cards that I would use to set up my wireless access on the iPad 3G use a P O Box address, but, when you attempt to login on the iPad it says PO Box are unacceptable as a billing address. If you call ATT they say it's an Apple issue, anyone with an idea about a work around where I can still get the iPad activated, but, can still get my credit card bills?
As to some AT&T rep claiming that it's Apple's issue, I think that's malarkey. Apple doesn't care about your billing address when you activate with AT&T's service; those terms are totally up to AT&T.
Too bad that's not really AT&T's policy. I've had an account with them for years and the only address I ever give them when I move is my PO Box. My credit cards are all on my PO Box. It's my CC billing address. My home address will fail the credit card authentication.
You credit card company is probably OK if you sign up and put your street address for ATT rather than your PO Box. I've done that before for online deliveries from Fedex / UPS.
Same here. Must I change my billing address temporarily just to activate? How secure is that? I'll change my CC's billing address to One Infinate Loop, activate my 3g ipad, then switch it back to my PO box.
Why?
not willing to change your billing address with your card temporarily to your actual street to sign up, then change it back - in exchange for keeping a great device?
I don't agree with AT&T's policy - but there is a way around it that to me is worth it.
My credit card billing address IS my physical address where I have lived for 10+ years but it still will not accept it. I have a PO box ONLY because USPS says i live too close to our post office and they refuse to deliver our mail. So our physical address is not recognized in the usps system. I'm trying everything I can to work around it, but still nothing!I
I have the same PO Box billing address problem. I don't believe it has anything to do with Apple. Anyway, an ATT rep suggested I change the billing address to a physical address temporarily, activate the 3G service and then switch the address back. What idiots!!!!!!! I can't wait for Verizon.
I am in ND and used literally like 6 different cards with actual addresses NOT PO BOXES and none of them work it continues to say verify the billing address.... This has me very angry and disappointed I may be taking my two IPads back tomorrow.
Changed my credit card to a street address but when I put that address into the iPad I still get "This Billing Address must contain a valid Street Address. Post Office Box is not permitted." The morons at ATT don't even know the difference between street and PO box.
I had the same thing happen. I called AT&T and you all know the rest of the story. I was absolutely flabbergasted. The support agent I spoke with was polite and understanding I told her it didn't help and just made no sense. Neither did the recommended solution of changing the billing address for sign up purposes and changing it back. However when I called my credit union it was no problem to change address which was immediately done. I signed up with AT&T without issues. After getting their confirmation I changed back my address but had them keep the physical address as a secondary one. I just hope the next 3G period billing goes smoothly.
