Wrong Location Detected on iPad Maps

iPad Maps detects my IP Address 112.201.137.0 - 112.201.240.255 that I'm in Russia. I am however in the Philippines for a long vacation. I hope this gets corrected as this is a will be a reliability issue for me.

iPad, iPhone OS 3.1.2

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

If your iPad is the WiFi only version, the location is calculated using data provided by Skyhook Wireless:

http://www.skyhookwireless.com/

My experience with the iPod touch, which uses the same data, has been that it's pretty accurate. But it may be because more of the U.S. Has been mapped.

They have a page where you can submit a wireless access point:

http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php

That should help them be more accurate.

If your iPad is the 3G version with built-in GPS, then I'm not sure what to say: mine's amazingly accurate, within a few feet outdoors.

I have the Wifi only version. I have been trying to find out who Apple's GeoIP provider is. At first I thought it was MaxMind. But since you said it's Skyhook, i guess you're right. I remember 1 time when the first iPhone came out I had to register some kind of MAC Address to a website but I never knew that was for that specific purpose. Now, when I visited the link you posted, I am sure it was the same site I was on before when I registered my old router.
I'll register my new router's MAC.
