If you are talking about the URL address then, first, touch this field. This brings up the keyboard and you can then touch the "X" which appears at the right of the URL address text field. This will clear all text in the field. The same is true for the Google search field.
None of these suggestions work for me. Suggestions for web sites I have previously visited keep showing even after I erased history, cookies and cache in safari settings and history from the bookmarks drop down menu in the toolbar. Anyone have anymore ideas?
I also have tried every one of these solutions and none of them work.
The url history remains and is used as suggestions if when you begin to type a url,(in the url bar), with a first letter that matches the first letter of a url that you've previously visited.
I've purchased Atomic Web Browser as an alternative browser as it has private Browsing functionality as well as others useful features.
I too have the same issue. Address entry window remembers history that is not cleared through Settings/Safari/Clear History or the Bookmarks/History options. Pretty poor from a privacy point of view. I can find no way to clear such history, and it keeps showing up as suggestions when typing new URLs in.
However, my problem was due to a deeply buried bookmark. The URL auto-complete utilizes all your bookmarks. After finding and deleting that, Clear History works as intended.
Hi
None of the conventional idea above worked for me either, soon as you type anything into the bar it brings up all old history.
However I see you guys discussimg now the auto url thing, could you elaborate a bit more please, thing is I have bookmarks dating back years, so is there an easier way.
Although I must say for this to not be in here officially is very poor, one of the golden security laws in my opinion.
I have struggled with this for several days until I read the above posts. Clearing the history and cookies via the Settings/Safari window didn't work. Clicking on Bookmarks/History/clear didn't work. The problem is that you have a bookmark that has a URL that is showing up when you start typing in a fresh url.
When you save a bookmark, you can give it a custom title that is different than the url. What gets confusing is when you click in the URL field and start typing www, you get all these 'suggestions' that are actually the URLs of the bookmarks you've saved. If you have one 'offending' suggestion that you don't want to see any more, you will need to go through your bookmarks and check their URLs one by one.
To do so, click on the bookmark icon, click the 'edit' button in the upper right, then click on the bookmark - it will then show you the URL associated. (Note, don't click the 'edit' button until your inside your bookmark folders, or else you're just editing the name of the folder)
