Is 2GB RAM enough to use Mac Mini as media center?

Planning to buy the "lesser" of the two available Mac Minis, the one with 2GB RAM.

I would like to run stuff such as Squeezebox Server, Boxee, XBMC etc., and use it to play back video and HD video to my TV.

Is 2GB enough to perform these tasks effectively? I understand it's very difficult to install more RAM, not to mention it (might?) void warranty.

MacBook 2GHz, MacBook Pro 2.4GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.3), Nope.

My mini running Leopard with a 'mere' 1gb of RAM does fine as a media center. I admit I have not run Squeezebox, but I do run Plex. Snow Leopard is supposed to be more efficient, so you may get similar results with the 2gb of RAM. However, it's always good to get as much memory in a machine as possible, one way or another. It may not be cheap to have Apple include more, but at the very least you can upgrade it yourself or have a trusted 3rd party do so after your warranty is up.

I bought the low end mini to use as a media center and run Plex on it. It works just fine. Plenty of spare CPU and RAM capacity as is. No reason to buy the high end.

However the small hard drive might be an issue if you intend to have lots of videos and don't have a server computer. In that case either the high end mini or a BTO low end might be better, although if you don't mine an external drive, that will save money.
