AT&T 3G -> 0.03Mpbs?

I've been trying to be patient since I thought AT&T might be inundated on Friday with activations, etc., but this is getting out of hand.

I've done speed tests the last three days, on 3G, using both the FCC Apps, as well as the Speedtest.net app, and generally I get less than stellar speeds. Usually around the 0.03Mbps range for downloads, and uploads won't even register a speed. Additionally, when I try to browse the web, or update Twitterific, they usually time out because the speeds are so slow. I paid for an unlimitted plan, and I can confirm that the iPad says 3G, and not E (for Edge).

I'm curious what other people are seeing for 3G speeds. Am I the only one having this problem? Any suggestions for a way to fix this issue?

Did you check your 3G coverage with AT&T? It looks like only the southern outskirts of Bellefontaine have 3G coverage. You're probably on the very edge and just barely getting coverage.

Make sure you check the 3G coverage box - the 3G area will be in blue

I'm also getting 5 Bars 3G signal strength, a large outdoor yard space in Williamsburg /Brooklyn but very disappointing benchmarks last weekend. 50-100 down, 8-60 up. This afternoon, best so far, uninterrupted Netflix streaming, for about two minutes. Watching maybe 20 minutes worth of the movie so far makes it obvious $14.99 250 MB data plan is silly. Just wanted to see with my own eyes. Two minutes of movie, then stuttering, it degrades, hard volume control icon (not the netflix sound bar) remains on, right in the middle of the movie. Email and browser tolerable, using USA Today, WSJ and NYT apps were perkier but serious lag on pics and don't even think about playing the embedded video. Downloading all but the smallest apps is not worth it - just walk back inside to my WiFi connection for that.

I just got off the phone with AT&T. This is after Apple Tech Support referred me to them.

They first tried to blame it on the time of day. When I explained to them that I was getting faster speeds on Edge, they decided to look into it. 50 minutes later, and I still don't have a resolution. They are supposed to look into the coverage in my area specifically, and get back to me by Thursday. I'm not holding my breath.

It looks like I paid an extra $130 for GPS.
