Can't remove Smartware on Western Digital My Book Essential external drive

Hi, I just purchased a 2TB Western Digital My Book Essential External Drive. When I plugged it into my Mac, I installed the Smartware software thinking that I would be able to remove it with the Virtual CD Manager.

I did everything that the guide told me to do. I went to Western Digital, updated the firmware, unplugged the external drive, restarted the computer, plugged the drive back into the mac.

I then installed the Virtual CD Manager, unplugged the external drive, plugged it back in, but the Smartware software is still in my menu bar and opens every time I plug in the drive. I can't seem to get rid of it. Please help

Should be OK. Here's another from OWC which is also a good choice. OWC, like LaCie, are very Mac-oriented.

What's the difference between the two? which do you think is a better drive? I appreciate your help.
