Organizing photos on ipad

Is there any way for me to control the order in which photos appear within an album or during a slideshow? As far as I can tell, the photos are arranged in the order of when the photo was originally taken and I can't find any way to change that.

I tried renaming the photos in the alphabetical order of the way I want them to appear and then re-syncing but that had no effect.

Note: I am PC-based, not MAC.

1- Go to your photos folders in Windows. Exp. C:\Users\YOURNAME\Pictures.

2- Organize the photo folders to your liking by using cut a paste or renaming.

3- Connect your iPad. Go to iTunes, choose your device and click on the last tab (photos).

4- Check mark the folders you want to transfer to your iPad.

5- Click on the Sync bottom on the right hand side and you are DONE.

The iPad now allows you to organize photos in albums. While it's true that you can't change the order in the Camera Roll, you CAN create an Album and then rearrange the order there.

First, create an Albums by clicking "Edit" and then "New Album". Once you have named the album, it allows you to select the photos you would like to place in that album. After choosing your photos for that album, you can rearrange the photos by clicking the icon in the upper right corner that appears to be a rectangle with an arrow coming out of it. Once you have clicked this icon, you can simply drag and drop the photos into any order you like.

The iPad seems to use the Camera Roll as a source library, allowing you to create multiple instances of the same photo in different albums and then using the camera roll to delete or edit every instance of that photo in all the various albums. The Camera Roll only displays in chronological order, which can be frustrating, but once you organize your images into albums, it becomes a moot point. Once all photos are organized into albums, you no longer have to worry too much about the Camera Roll unless you take more photos. At that point, you want it in chronological order anyway so that you can quickly find your latest shots. I do hope they eventually allow you to search the Camera Roll with various criteria, but for now, Albums are the best way to organize and edit.

This post is pretty old so its all together possible that Albums wasn't an option at the time, but this thread still shows up when searching for this issue and I didn't see the answer. I searched for it when I was trying to figure it out and ended up stumbling across the solution on my own.

I hope this helps!

I just downloaded Photos Pro, and it allows you to create as many libraries as you want loaded with as many albums as you want loaded with as many photos as you want sorted any way you want manually or automatically. You can even sync your organized albums back to your iPad Photos Library for all of your other apps to see and use. Best of all, it doesn't hide or duplicate any of your photos, and you can export whole libraries back to your computer using iTunes. Sort order isn't affected by subsequent iTunes sync operations either.

Way down the line from the original post. I have just bought ipad 3 and find that Apple seem to have done some tweeking since most of the replies above. I have no problems with transferring photos from an iPhoto album from my iMac ordered how I choose. This order remains the same in the Albums in 'Photo'.

However, not so in iPhoto on the iPad. It adds nothing but confusion to the iPad for my uses as the editing is OK but not enough anyway and the wacky ordering cancels out any advantage which is a shame.

I'll be continuing to edit on the iMac and transfer back in the order that suits me for display. Probably will do this even with photos taken on the ipad too. Not seamless but not too clunky.

Doubt this helps any pre mark 3 owners but I was pleased to find this working better than I expected.
