I was a bit disapointed to find that the additional SOLIO charger I bought to use exclusively with my iPad3G, gets the message "not charging" when it is connected. I understand that it **will charge, albeit slowly, when the iPad is off or in sleep mode. That remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful. I have written to Solio for more information...

Do you know what the charger is rated at for charging current or wattage?
I'd check their web site for specs, but it requires flash.
If the charger is rated at less than 1 amp (or 5 watts) output, it'll cause The "not charging" message to appear. So you are right that it will charge much slower.

The solio website listed the power output for the Solio Classic as "5 watts". On a full charge, it replaced about 40% of the iPad's battery, while the iPad was in "sleep" mode. Disappointing, but far better than not being able to charge the iPad at all!
5 watts is same as iPhone charger, so that is why you are seeing a reduced charging rate. <<<
that makes sense. Thank you! I hope to hear back from SOLIO. I know they list a product on their website, that supplied 8 watts, but it is no longer available.
@Talk2USoon - I just got a Solio Classic this morning - I tried to charge my iPad with it and got the same message as you. Did you ever hear back from the Solio company?
