I finally got it fixed. You have to enter you username and password under outgoing mail even though it says it is optional. It is not optional. Then all my settings worked.
I was having the same problem,so I deleted the account and reentered it and now all is good.
hey, tooBad41 -
I thought I did what you said -- I must have done part of it right, but now I can send mail but I can't receive email!
Thanks so much for posting this! My phone has been driving me crazy since I upgraded to IOS 5. Port 25 worked for me on the outgoing server! You have saved me!!! :-)
25 just worked for me as well! Thank you SO much for the info!

Thanks to those that posted about the "optional" user name and password. I now can send emails from my iPad . Very happy thank you!! BTW - am using port 587...
Oh… I forgot to add that my email has been working fine for quite some time. This problem just started after I backed up and synced my phone last night.
Worked for me in 2014. Doh! Why didn't I try that before?
OMG Thank you so much!! That outbound part on your wireless iPhone has to have all info even though it states optional! Hours and was going nuts! I am so happy !
