Airport Express flashes amber every 7 minutes

I've got a 3rd party WiFi network that I've told my Airport Express to join so I could use it as an ethernet bridge for upstairs. It seems to work perfectly except for the fact that every 7 minutes and 15 seconds (yes, I've timed it!) the Airport express will flash amber for about 4 seconds before turning back to solid green.

The device I have connected to it is a VOIP phone, and the phonecall goes silent whenever the amber flashing occurs, making it a problem.

Any ideas what could be wrong here? Could it be because the 3rd party WiFi network is set to WDS; Should I just set it as a normal network?

Thanks for any ideas.

Okay, so I've switched off WDS mode on the Edimax Access Point which I'm using for the house WiFi network, and turned it into a basic WiFi router. I also unplugged the Ethernet device from the AirPort Express and did a factory reset and then asked it to rejoin the WiFi network, but even after this I'm still having the problem; every 7 minutes and 15 seconds, like clockwork, it loses connection and needs to reconnect to the network.

This problem also recently started happening to me. I'm trying to stream itunes music to the airport express and every 7.5 minutes it skips twice for a few seconds each time with a few seconds in-between. It was working fine until a few days ago (I had not streamed for a week or two).

Anyone else having this problem and/or figured out how to solve it?

I'm having similar problems. My iTunes airport express won't pick up at all unless I put it right next to my iMac, and I keep losing my network connection to another express that links to the broadband router, just 8 feet above the imac [through the ceiling].
I notice that there are now up to 9 other networks detected though - used to be 3 - so I suspect it is interference. A neighbour has probably set one up on the other side of the wall 😟

The problem is a wireless compatibility issue that Apple is still yet to resolve despite any threads on this exact topic. It usually crops up when an Airport Express joins a network and the wireless router or access point uses an Atheros chipset.

The only known solution is to change to a router that uses a Broadcom chipset like the one in the Airport. Then it'll stay connected indefinitely.
