Several times recently I have entered a new event in iCal on my iPhone. Then at some point in the future, I go to look for the event, either on my phone or via iCal on my MacBook, and the event has disappeared. A couple of times I found that my calendar sync settings in iTunes had switched themselves off. Today, however, "Sync iCal Calendars" is still checked, with the "All Calendars" radio button enabled.
I have lost two doctor's appointments and a friend's birthday this way.
I have been having this problem since I got the iPhone two Years ago. It will work fine for a while, but occasionally get rid of events. I know of 3 in the last couple weeks that have been saved and are fine but then they mysteriously disappear.
The last time I talked to Apple Support, they told me that I am the only person that they have had report this issue and the only person that seemed to have multiple calendars (I have 23, and need them). It is funny how the forum talk about iCal/iPhone syncing issues but apple doesn't seem to know about it.
They had me back up all my events on the computer and restore them. Then re-sync the iPhone. That seemed to work most of the times, but it seems to be a problem again for some reason....I just lost a couple more appointments^%&*^%
I hope they find time to actually fix the problem. As we become more dependent on these calendars, losing appointment information becomes more and more frustrating. Enough to change phones...
Have just realised that I had the wrong setting on my iphone! Don't know if it is the same for you. I went into settings - mail, contacts, calendars= scrolled down the page to calendars and under sync changed it to all events. I had it checked for just syncing for one month !
Hi Sheila,
I have got a 3GS and my son has a 3G and unfortunately they are different. The 3GS has Sync under New invitation alerts. Are you on mobile me because that might be the difference. I have that and my son doesn't
Since getting my iPhone (3GS) I've always had a problem with seemingly random appointments being deleted or duplicated in iCal which Frustrating since I run my business from my calendar!
I've noticed that it affects recurring appointments more often; especially when I have to change just one day/time of a recurring appointment.
I am afraid to connect my phone to my computer to sync anything. Is it time to get Outlook and switch to a Blackberry or Android? I can't afford to have this happening.
I've just sync'd my iphone 3GS with latest os4.0 with iCal on my MacBook and lost loads of appointments? I thought all events from both calendars should be combined on both machines or at least the latest data written to both, but I've lost all the info I've put into my iPhone seemingly replaced with what was on my Macbook weeks ago.... What's going on?
Help is there anyway I can restore the iphone to its previous state? Very unhappy....
Steve
I've just experience exactly the same issue. I've definitely lost several appointments on both the phone and my macbook. I use it for my business so this is very annoying!
If there is a way to get these back I'd love to hear it too.
For now I've turned off syncing and will just use the calendar on the phone, I can't risk this happening again.
I have also been having this problem for several months. I lose appointments seemingly randomly. I feel I have to keep a paper backup. It's enough to make me want to eat the early termination fee and switch to a PalmPre at Verizon. (I miss the Week View on my old Palm Pilot.)
Are the old appointments get in a backup file anywhere? iTunes seems to always do a backup first before syncing. Can I restore a previous backup file? When I tried, it said it would delete everything on my phone, so I have never had the courage to try it.
The sync to which calendar function will show up under your iTunes Info tab and not on your iPhone. I've lost so many appointments also. Very frustrating. Also inadvertently created an additional calendar and can't get rid of it even after trying various fixes. If your Outlook archive is good, you can probably restore some lost information by restoring Outlook and then syncing your iPhone to the restored Outlook.
I have had exactly the same problem, I use my phone for business and have all the dates for all my meetings and things that I should do for the day. ALL GONE.
I guess I am going to have to go back to paper and stick it onto the back of my phone.
I never lost a single appt until my first sync after I upgraded to the new OS4 on my iPhone 3G. I lost several appts from both my iPhone iCal as well as my MB Pro. They are nowhere to be found. Extremely frustrating. I don't know what to do. This needs to be fixed by Apple. It makes this device unreliable in my opinion as the calendar functionality is crucial. As a long time avid Apple user without many problems, I am super disappointed right now.
