Problems with Capture Settings in FCP7 and it recognizing my Canon XAH1 HDV

hey everyone,

I am trying to capture video from a Canon XAH1 for a friend. Video is HD and shot in 24fps. I have tried the FW 400-800, and 400-400 cables on my imac and my macbook pro.
I have noticed that alot of people are having this problem but i have had no luck.
I have fixed the common problems with the camera settings such as: HD down-conv is off, and playback is set to HDV not Auto.
Also i have switched through some of the program's capture settings with no luck. My capture scratch on my desktop is the internal hardrive and the laptop is an external drive, so the scratch drive doesn't seem to effect it either.
I have never had this issue with my previous camera and I am at my wits end!

Could it be that: it is shot in 24FPS? the Firewire cable? Canon is a Pain?

PLEASE HELP!
Thank you for any assistance...

iMAC, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 8gb ram, Canon XAH1 HDV,

You must have your FCP settings match the material on tape and you must be using the correct firewire control protocol - Firewire basic hdv or something like that if I remember correctly. The export/playback settings on the cam must match FCP settings.

If you need to change the settings on the cam, unplug the firewire cable from it before you change them. If you leave it connected, the cam will not make the changes.

And yes, Canons are a pain. A long standing pain. In some cases, the camera will not properly connect with the computer if there are any other devices on the firewire bus.

Good luck,

x

X (&others),
I'm considering purchasing an iMac 27" w/the quad core i5 processor, but just realized it only has one FW800 input. I shoot HDV with an Canon XHA1. I have a G-Tech external drive that only has FW800s.

I've seen some threads on the topic, but I've not found a conclusive answer: Will I be able to capture from the camera into the new iMac w FCP7 (assuming all settings are set properly)?

Many thanks
Leo
