The price for ebooks is set by the publisher. They are the same price no matter where you shop. They are no more higher on ibooks than Kindle.

How can you write such nonsense? Anyone with a little experience with ebooks knows that is wrong. Just one example: Amy Chua, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. Kindle -- 9.99, iBooks -- 12.99
What I wright is from experience. I have bought hundreds of ebooks and every time, I compare prices and they are the same. That is the first time I have found a difference in price.
For currently published novels, the price is set by the publisher. If you own an ipad, you should shop around. You can read nook, kindle, kobo etc on it. If you own a particular reader sony, kindle, nook etc you are stuck with that particular ebook store and that price.
Ipad is the only ereader that allows you to shop around and get the best price.

And the iBookstore is the only source of ebooks whose products cannot be read on your laptop/desktop, which makes it less attractive even in those cases where it's price is the same or lower than other sources.
That is true; and frustrating.
although you can get a program like Calibre to read them on your laptop.
i just put the kindle app on my ipad (and my macbook air) and can't believe ibooks isn't icloud syncing across all devices. what are you guys thinking?

Calibre cannot read paid-for iBooks (except for the very few publishers which do not use DRM).
It is really important not to mislead people about this, because if they follow your advice and buy an iBook to read on their laptop, they will most likely find it is impossible and have to buy the book all over again from Kindle or another service.
Yes it can. I just tried it on a book I bought from barnes and noble.

But this entire thread is about reading books from the iBookstore, not B&N.
My point is that you can read any ebook on Calibre which you said you could not. And how important it is to not mislead people.
You cannot read any book on calibre; if the book is purchsed from iTunes it is security protected and will not be readable in calibre.

Do you really not understand that you cannot read a paid-for iBook from the Apple iBookstore with Calibre?
My point is we want a seamless way of reading on iphone, ipad, macbook — picking up where I left off (icloud) and maybe this kind of development will be announced this month
