No - this required the iBooks app. The iBooks app is for the iPad and the same will be available for the iPhone when firmware update 4.0 for the iPhone is released this summer.

An app written for OS X on a Mac can't be installed and used on the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, and an app written for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad can't be installed and used on a Mac.

Yeah, trying to read an iBook on my MacBook Pro, also. This doesn't work for me, either; adding to Library. Guess I'll just have to keep reading on the iPhone 🙂

As was the case when this thread started 2 years ago, neither ADE nor any other app will let you read a normal paid-for book with DRM from the iBookstore on a Mac.

I agree, it's very upsetting that they have not provided an OSX iBooks app. I just don't get it. My wife and I both have the latest MacBook Air generations, and we each have (and love) the giant Thunderbolt display. We both have iPhones, but I have an iPad and she has a Kindle reader. She reads on the Kindle device frequently, but also is able to sit at her desk, with her legs crossed, with a cup of coffee, at her desk reading the Kindle app for Mac on her 27" Thunderbolt display as well. I've purchased a few iBooks and read them on the Kindle, but the inability to read on my Mac makes me seriously question whether I would ever buy any more until there's an OSX reader. I can purchase Kindle books, read them on the Kindle app on my iPad as well as the Kindle app for my Mac. Apple will be losing business reluctantly from a loyal customer to a competitor, over something as silly as an iBook reader for their own operating system. As a shareholder, this makes zero sense to me. I really wish they would push out iBooks for Mac.

I just got a shock when I tried to read a book on my Mac.

You can use iTunes to watch movies, play music, but not books? For 2 years this couldn't be fixed. And all the fanboys try to tell me Apple listens to customers.

I don't have any idevices right now, so what am I to do? Just looking at the icons of the books is not helping me at all.

Stop buying iBooks people! Kindle is so much more flexible, Apple will never allow so many options.

OH I am an idiot for thinking that I could read the book I just bought on multiple devices. If only I had bought from the kindle store. The computer is clearly able to display epub, pdf, mobi, etc - and I can use itunes on it to manage pdf and epub books - I just cant read the one from the apple store.

Good luck friend. I've sent emails and made phone calls (at all times being as pleasant as possible), yet no answers have been forthcoming. As a few other folks on this forum have mentioned. I stopped purchasing books from ibooks, which is a shame, as i'm a pretty loyal apple customer. Having said that I recently dove in and purchased a Kindle Fire and downloaded a bunch of books from Amazon. Since Apple has not taken our advice on making their books available to be read on our computers, I hope they take my advice on purchasing Amazon stock, as I believe they're actually making it go up! Good luck!😉
