No - this required the iBooks app. The iBooks app is for the iPad and the same will be available for the iPhone when firmware update 4.0 for the iPhone is released this summer.

An app written for OS X on a Mac can't be installed and used on the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, and an app written for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad can't be installed and used on a Mac.

Well, until apple makes an iBook app for their computers, you can still use the Stanza desktop.

From what I understand, the ebook formats for iBook are in epub format and stanza lets you convert epubs, azw, xhtml, txt, rtf and so on into each other as well as pdfs.

So basically you can either read through the stanza desktop or convert your ebooks into pdf or xhtml and read them through your browser.

I'm puzzled as to why you'd be puzzled at the expectation that a music player that also plays movies, organizes mobile apps, manages (poorly) AppleTV content, and stores/syncs iBooks, would be able to read the books as well. Makes as much sense as anything about iTunes.

The puzzling thing is why Apple would not provide such a simple solution. Until they do, Kindle will be getting my iBook money.

Apple does not have an ibook function for your mac or macbook for one simple reason. If they did, you wouldn't rush out and buy an ipad. Ipad doesn't support flash for one simple reason. If they did, you wouldn't rush out and buy a mac. It's not rocket science, just bad evil marketing by a company that has lost sight of it's customers. Enjoy.
