My ability to switch between Portrait and Landscape is gone. iPad is locked in landscape. I've shut it down (powered down) but that hasn't done the trick. Don't see a way to unlock it so that will go into portrait. What's up?
There is a small switch on the side just about the volume controls. This switch locks and unlocks the rotation of the screen. If the orange dot is visible, the orientation is locked. Try switching it and see if that helps?
Yes, that did it. Must have accidentally moved it to the locked position. Thanks. Guess this proves it's worth reading the documentation!!! Thanks for your speedy response.
Thank you for this suggestion. It worked for me.
I only have it since a few hours and it got "stuck" in the portrait position. Scared the willies out of me. Must have touched that button by accident.
This thing is so self-explaining that I failed to check out what all the buttons and holes at the side are for before I started using it :S
Ipad is the most incredible little device I ever saw. Awesome. Pure genius.
I have a similar problem, only my Mail app. is stuck in portrait mode. For everything else I can switch between landscape and portrait easily. Since my Mail app. is stuck in portrait, I can't even check out the other folders/inboxes etc.
It won't solve your portrait problem, but you should be able to click on the Inbox button in the top left, and then be able to navigate through your mailboxes and folders via the popup that appears.
Have you tried doing a reset (pressing the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears) to see if that fixes the problem ?
In portrait mode, if I click the "inbox" then it gives me a search box, it doesn't let me navigate ( I'm guessing this is by design)
In any case the reboot worked, thanks !
I'm hoping Apple will recommend a more elegant solution for this issue, i hate rebooting my devices 🙂
Hi- I'm stuck in landscape too. I use the switch to toggle between the two orientations on occasion, but now when I move the switch with the orange dot it toggles the mute function on or off. I can't seem to find anything in the settings to fix this. Most grateful for any help.
The orientation lock has been moved. The button on the side is now mutes system sounds.
To access the rotation lock, double tap the home button to bring up the multitasking bar. Scroll all the way to the left. Tap the rotation lock icon. It looks like a circular arrow.
Tap the home button twice and it will bring up the recent apps used at the bottom. Swipe to the right and the screen lock will be on the left. This is new in iOS 4. The volume controls are there as well.
The switch now mutes system sounds only like notifications of emails and the like.
