Preview Invert Selection not working

I'm trying to delete a selection of a page in a pdf.
The Invert Selection option is blanked out.
If there is another way to do it then please say.

I'm pretty sure Invert Selection only works for images. It's never worked for me with PDFs.

depending on the document requirement, use preview to save the document as an image (jpg) and then use the invert command to chop out sections of the "image". Then save the image as a PDF. the quality of the file will be degraded some but if the document is "just a reference file" and quality does not matter ........ you can use the invert command to clean up the unwanted areas.
