Finder won't show folder sizes

Finder won't show folder sizes

When I click on a large folder and hit get info, I get "calculating size" forever. If I open the parent folder and check "calculate all sizes" in view options, I don't get the folder sizes. I've tried force-quitting the Finder to no avail.

Mac Pro 2.66GHz, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 5GB ram

How long is long? I have been waiting about 11 hours now for Finder to calculate the size of single Time Machine backup folder. Yes, I did enable sharing & permissions for me as administrator, and the message "calculating size" has been appearing since 11 hours ago.

In view options, both size and get all sizes need to be enabled. The former only shows file sizes.

Thanks for the reply...I did have both checked but size still wasn't showing...however after I left my computer for an hour or so now the sizes are showing...I guess it just took a long time to calculate.

Thanks for the feedback. It does take awhile to do the calculations if there are many in the particular folder. Good computing.
