Anybody drop their iPad yet...?

...and if so, how did it hold up?

Thanks. 😀

I saw a video of someone dropping it face down on pavement from right around 3 feet and it was totally smashed.
There is also another user on the forum that dropped his iPad in his Apple case on the screen lock corner and it dented it enough to prevent the screen lock from working.

I know from personal experience (I worked at Apple) that at least the iPhone requires at least 10-15 hard hammer blows (don't ask, it was a water damaged iPhone used for testing purposes!) to break the screen. The iPad seems much more fragile to me for some reason. Scary!

That being said, I dropped mine in the apple case on a tile floor with no damage.

The fact is that although there are no moving parts in the device, the front is a large piece of glass, and therefore if it falls far enough on a hard enough surface - particularily face down, I wouldn't expect good results.

A case will help dents and dings for sure, but simple physics dictate that the speed + weight of the device + the hardness of the surface of the ground with a variable of which part of the case impacts first will dictate if it survives.

To sum it up - given what it is made of, I think it is as well built as can be expected.

Dropped on concrete while waking to my car. Dented the top left corner but no cracked glass. It hit on the aluminum case, so I guess that saved it. Everything still works. Impressed. It seems well built.

Not so well as I stated in other discussion. Grand daughter feels badly about it but in her zest for PacMan the ipad 2 fell onto the concrete patio while vacationing in Myrtle Beach. Only had the thing since the 15 March and was tickled that I had onel. Cracked the case and one main line of cracking across the screen. However, after 6 more days the one crack has become several.

Absolutely no solution except expensive fix. I'll probably buy a laptop instead. I can't believe this won't happen over and over again. Is thinner really better?
