Rebuilding Thumbnail caches STUCK

Followed a MacWorld article suggesting rebuilding caches will speed up iPhoto

Has had opposite effect

All I have now is it stuck at Rebuilding Thumbnail caches with spinning wheel. Have also deleted the file com.apple.iPhoto form library file as suggested elsewhere Makes no difference.

Help please cannot use iPhoto

Thanks

I know I cannot get iPhoto to launch anyway at all without spinning wheel just tried that to see if it worked from Dock or any other way Because I CANNOT open iPhoto I don't get asked option to select library

Hence my request to spell it out a small step at a time to reduce the number of posts I have tried what Old Toad said BUT still get spinning wheel

Looks like a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to first delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder, reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on and reapply the latest updaters.

OK thought it might come to that I have the disk that came with the computer presumably iPhoto is on there More importantly the iPhoto Library that is now sitting on my desktop is where all my photos are? Is that correct? I don't want to lose all my photos even though I regularly back up with Time machine thanks for help

Yes. The library contains all of your photos, both the originals (the most important) and the modified versions.

After reinstalling iPhoto and updating see if you can open the old library successfully. If not then see if you can create a new library so you can import only the Original folder and its subfolders into it.
