I have had this problem for months. I have only found this thread but have literally just found a quick fix.

My problem was that when I put a gift card on to buy things (Its the only way I do it) It would tell me my Security code was wrong, once I clicked 'Buy'. I kept trying, but it would always say it was wrong.

I then cancelled all that I was doing, went to Home, and then went to account settings. I changed my Security code through that area, and also re-writing all my bank details in. It takes a few seconds, but it then goes through.

Don't do it through the purchase part, but through your actual settings. It should then work. This worked for me after months of waiting for it to work!

It may not work for all of you, but it's worked for me! A bit late, but incase anyone still needs it

Hi guys I had the very same problem on my Ipad 2 and was so annoyed when I called and they said no one could help me becaus emy 90 day warranty was passed and I would have to pay fo it myself.  I tried entering different cards and that didnt work until.... A SOLUTION

I used the paypal option and set up my same debit card information in it and it worked! now i can get my updates an download free apps as well as purchase other apps. Thank God!

I hope this works for you becuse none of the others worked for me!  Apple needs to do something though because its not cool for us to be sitting here helpless after all what good is an ipad if you cant download apps or purchase new books.

    Good luck Everyone!

Here's another fix for all of you, in case you haven't been able to get it to work otherwise...

I talked with AppleCare, and it took a few days of prodding, but we figured out my problem. My account was charged, all of my apps downloaded, but the payment didn't go through for days and the funds weren't available when they tried to process it. The only way to clear that out was by buying a gift card and clearing the balance out that way. Regardless of how much money was in my account, the security code would read as invalid until the balance was cleared via a gift card.

Once again, they tried to have me fix the issue in a variety of ways before we actually touched on the real issue at hand. It was perplexing to say the least. We tried re-typing in all of my info (found that they had my iPad serial number assigned to someone else by mistake...glad we found that out in the process)...nothing worked.

Best of luck finding out what your problem is with the security code error...it's a hot topic for Apple, I think, though they are reluctant to admit it.

I have found a solution! When it says what type of credit card do you have, press none. Automatically it will now started loading whatever you bought. Hope this will help guys..

Apparently, this is an issue that many are having,  entering the security code and it says to please enter a valid security code and you have just entered the correct security code...I guess Apple does not want to make any money because no one that has this issue can do anything until it is resolved!

I figured this out this morning. The security code is the three digit code on the back of your credit card, but what was key was changing the EXPIRATION DATE on my card. My numbers remained the same, but I had forgotten that I had a new card with a new expiration date...

Toneeh, would you mind giving details on how to do this Account Setting redo step by step? Thanks!

  • cardenj Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

see if you owe itunes any money, i know that sounds weird but open itunes on your computer, log out of your account and log back in, see if you owe them any money, if you do it wont let you have free apps, update your current apps or anything, i just had the same problem myself

  • feedmelove Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

omg thank so much, I finally fixed things through the iTunes account settings Now everything is working for me !

  • Medic975 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Exact same thing happening to me. Apple has had this issue for almost 2 years going by the date of the original post. It's simply unacceptable that they haven't fixed it by now.

Dear Apple, Things would be soooooo much easier if you just accepted "Bitcoin"!

We all seem to have the same problem. There are 11 pages of discussions going back to march 2010 with no real solution. In my case the Apple store from which I buy things from time to time accepts my credit card and stores the 3 digit security code. Unfortunately neither the iTunes store nor my iPod will save the security code 3 digit number. In my explanation [see below] to someone from Apple's support who suggested I try all of the things to do that don't work, I mentioned that I have been with Amazon for 10 years without ever having a problem go unresolved or with the cop out of switching to a different payment method.

It is no wonder that Amazon has been inticed into selling music downloads. Such a shame when Apple is the neatest system. In the quirky Apple system I can buy iTunes music on my computers without the security code stored but apparently not from the iPod. Perhaps the sheer Catch 22 insanity of Apple's support will embarass them enough to fix the problem. None of the myriads of other internet sites I deal with and who use the 3 digit code have gotten themselves so tied up in their underwear.

Here is my response to Romarico a support tech from Apple:

    Romarico

The problem appears to be that the iPod account sign in will not accept the 3 digit "security code" number required from the back of my Credit Card. Although my APPLE STORE account accepts this 3 digit security code and shows it to be recorded. But the iTUNES STORE account page won't save that 3 digit security code.

In spite of this, for reasons known only to Apple, I can buy songs from the iTunes on the computer, I just can't buy songs from my iPod and I suspect the fact that neither the iTunes account page or the iPod will let me save the three digit security code is the culprit. This is keeping me from buying apps and songs using the iPod although I can buy apps and songs on the computer and it will update the iPod with these purchases after syncing with my computer.  I have the latest software on both iPod and computer. I have reset my iPod and redone my information at all locations and nothing resolves the issue.  iTunes and iCloud and iPod will not let me enter the security code but Apple Store will.

It is incomprehensible to me that such a quirky issue exists [the apple blogs are full of this problem which appears to be a bank vs Apple glitch] and no one at Apple seems to be able to fix it. The blogs and support forums seem to be having everyone redo everything but it doesn't seem to fix the problem and the recommendation is use PayPal or buy prepaid Apple cards [......ie a cop-out].

I am trying to hook my iPod up to the iCloud and have paid the yearly subscription fee. I do not want to use a different credit card but I am starting to understand why Amazon, Microsoft SkyDrive and others are able to gain market share. Microsoft had a lot of this a few years back but seemed to have fixed it. I have never had such a problem with Amazon in the ten years I have been dealing with them.

Thanks for listening and let me know if a viable solution [that is a solution which does not cause me to change payment method] can be found.

"I can buy songs from the iTunes on the computer, I just can't buy songs from my iPod and I suspect the fact that neither the iTunes account page or the iPod will let me save the three digit security code is the culprit"

    ???

You don't need to input your CC in two different places.

If you can purchase in iTunes on your computer, just sign in with the same iTunes account on your iPod. Yu don't need to input the CC on the iPod for the same accountnt that already has a CC.

You don't need to use (and really shouldn't) have a different iTunes account for the iPod.
