Junk mail filtering in iPad mail app

I am getting a very large amount of junk email that is not being caught by iPad mail. Is anyone else having the same issue?

Both Entourage and Mac mail catch it on my iMac but not mail on the iPad and there is no junk mail setting for the iPad app that I can find.

Are you or anyone else reading this aware of a more fully featured Mail App for iPad that suports Spam filtering synchronized with the mail host as it would be with a 'real' computer?

I use Gmail. Gmail's servier side spam filters are close to perfect. The Gmail app for iOS allows you to mark as spam anything the filter misses. I get, maybe, one or two spam emails a week on my iOS devices.

But, can you mark an email as Spam on your iPad?

GMail, Yahoo!, HotMail, even COMCAST for gosh sakes, and many others as well, all have filters at the mail server level that seem to work just fine. The point is that somebody needs to come up with a 'hook' to catch Spam at the iPad level and relay that info back to the mail server filter as well as from real computers. I believe iPad Mail App is able to relay info about deleting an email back to the mail server; why not also relay a Spam Flag when marked as such?

I had just recently changed my contact information in contacts changing my yahoo account to "home" from "work". That's when I noticed every time I forwarded an email from my work email via my iPhone to my yahoo account on my iPad it went to the Junk folder. I went back to my contact of myself and simply edited my email for my yahoo account and changed it to "work" and all my emails went to my inbox instead of my Junk folder.

The myMail app has spam or junk filtering built in. You can easily specify emails as spam, or specify an email in the spam folder as not junk. I have found it very good, although I do random checks of the spam folder and do find the occasional email that was caught by mistake.

Unfortunately, the support for the app is poor - friendly, but not very intelligent. I have had to explain some things several times over, with screenshots, etc. This poor support, as well as some issues with the app, have meant that I have stopped using it and am looking for another mail app.

You may like it though, so do give it a try. It's free too.

If you have your iPad and Mac synced to the same mail account, you can set up the Mac to filter junk mail. Although all mail will originally come into the iPad inbox, if you refresh the mailbox then the emails the Mac has filtered to junk mail will also be filtered off of the iPad inbox into the iPad junk mailbox. Your Mac must be on and Mail open so that it can be actively removing junk mail for this to work. Another caveat, marking an email as junk mail for future filtering will only work on the Mac. If you try to do this on the iPad the system will not remember.

Hope this helps.
