ECC Disabled ?

When I go to About this Mac and then look at Memory it shows my two 2GB RAM Sticks but says ECC Disabled? What is ECC and is it suppose to be disabled?

iMac 24" Dual Monitors, MacBook Pro 17" HiRes, Mac OS X (10.6.2), iPhone 3G 16GB White

ECC is an extra error checking function built right into the RAM, but it's typically only used in high end workstations and servers. Only the Mac Pros use ECC RAM, and that's why that particular field is there. It's normal for a MBP, but on a Mac Pro it might indicate a problem.
