Magic Mouse connected but not working

I had no problems with my magic mouse since I bought it last month. Couple of days ago it suddenly stopped working. According to the indicator, the connection was good and I had %52 battery level in my mouse. I turned the mouse off and on, turned the bluetooth connection off and on, disconnected the mouse and reconnected, changed the batteries, I even restarted the computer, nothing happened. Then all of a sudden the mouse came back to life.

The mouse again stopped working about 3 hours ago. Since then I did the same things I did before. This time I even reset the PRAM by pressing option command+RP keys. Nada. Nothing happens.

Here is my problem:
- The mouse does not work even though the indicator says wireless mouse is connected, the battery level is for more than %50 and the green indicator on the mouse blinks when I turn on and off the mouse.

Here is what I did in order to solve the problem as a list:
- Clicked the mouse several times in order to make sure that it is not sleeping.
- Turned the mouse off and on using the switch button on the mouse.
- Checked the battery holder to see if there is anything loose and changed the batteries.
- Disconnected and reconnected the wireless mouse.
- Turned the bluetooth off and on.
- Restarted the computer several times.
- Reset PRAM.
- Tried to delete the .com....bluetooth.plist
- Even changed the battery of the wireless keyboard.
- Made sure that there is no cell phone or any other bluetooth available equipment nearby.

I wonder whether there is a software bug in one of the latest updates or my mouse is defective.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks Savagekitty... My magic mouse has been working since I bought it. Today all of a sudden I have the same issues posted in this thread. Tried many things with no luck. Tried almost exactly what you posted except I did a reboot instead of a shutdown. Doing a shutdown and then turning of the mouse must have cleared whatever a reboot would not. Once I brought back up my macbook pro and reconnected the mouse it worked like a charm. Been working all day since.

Just had this same issue and came across your post. I spoke with Apple support (got right through to a knowledgeable tech who was not reading from a script and it lessened the frustration right away) and he instructed me to shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse. Once the computer started back up, he had me wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse. I turned back on the power to the bluetooth mouse, and it was back to normal and working properly.

I made sure to get a ticket number for this issue in case it happens again and the mouse needs to be replaced, and as a side note: the Apple system didn't recognize my mouse's serial number either, and gave me support once I provided my computer's serial number.

Hope that helps!

Hi Kitty:

Your troubleshooting has been most thorough. You said you "tried" to delete the BT preference file. Did you move it to the trash and then restart?

In any event, I would either take it to anApple store or call Applecare with a warranty issue. The fact that it worked/stopped working/worked/and stopped again makes me think it is a hardware problem.
