Dictionary scroll bars

Well, that was short-lived. Reran Dictionary and the scrollbars are missing again or don't display the entire wikipedia selection. Bouncing back and forth between All and Wikipedia is problematic. This is beyond me.

Did you use the "remember me" setting when logging into Wikipedia? Did you clear your cookies or cache?

While this isn't a perfect work-around, it does work.

Yes, but I can give it another shot.

Gave it another shot and the process is intermittent. I get scroll bars, but they don't work in the Wikipedia section under All. They don't appear when running in the Wikipedia and reentering a search term. Basically, it's broken.

Hi folks. I'm the author of the original fix for this same problem last year. I received a lot of traffic from here, as well as from Apple HQ, but no comments on my site so I had no idea any of you were having problems with my old article until people started contacting me directly. That's kind of annoying, no offense.

Anyways, that said, I posted another article some time ago, so things should be fairly straightforward. If you have any problems, feel free to bug me over there in the comments section and I can see what help is possible.

Just so I can understand this a little better, how is it supposed to help them remember you when you're clicking "remember me" and then clearing your browser cache and cookies? It's like saying "Remember me!", "No, wait. Forget me!"

Clearing the cache/cookies BEFORE applying the fix may help those still having difficulty getting it to work. Clearing the cache/cookies AFTER applying the fix undoes everything. This suggestion was only given in the context of troubleshooting. It is not part of the instructions.

Just to be clear (because I, apparently, had a hard time reading the initial instructions) you need to be log in to your wikipedia account IN SAFARI to make these changes. You also need to clear your safari cache to make the fix work (command-option-e).

I ran into this the other day and found the procedure here worked for my Dictionary.app and stuck for the past few days.
If this duplicates something you've already done, ignore it.

Dramacat makes an important clarification. After monkeying around with Firefox and Chrome, he's right. This "fix" apparently requires you use Safari. Safari is my default browser so I didn't give it any thought and I really should have. It stands to reason Dictionary would naturally be looking to Safari if browser cookies have such an effect.

Please keep in mind this isn't a perfect work-around. At best, you may still experience minor rendering problems. Your Wikipedia cookie only keeps you logged in for 30 days so you will have to login periodically.

Personally, this solution worked for me without having to clear caches or jump through any additional hoops. It was a straightforward solution but your results may differ due to some unanticipated variable not addressed here. If you continue to have difficulty, go to the source. The original author of the work-around has provided a link above. He encourages you to comment and ask questions. At the very least, stop by and thank him for helping us all out.

I was wondering if there is a way to solve this issue by looking at the files in this directory:

Perhaps someone experienced in programming can help here.
