MBP13‘3 and External Monitor Problem (screen goes pink/ laptop hangs)

I just got my MacBook Pro 13'3 2.4 GHz, 4gb, deliveried today, I brought a MiniDisplay to VGA adaptor along with it.

When I connect the external Display to VGA adaptor, first of all, both monitors are fine, after few mintues( maybe display go to sleep mode), laptops hangs both screen go to pink/purple color. Keyboard and Mouse not responding anymore, have to shutdown the laptop by holding down the power button.

Does any one have this problem, is this a Hardware flaw or OS?

thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3), MacBook Pro 13'3 2.4 GHz, 4gb

Here's another +1 with the same issue.

My configuration:
Macbook Pro 2.66 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo
MacOS X 10.6.6
External Dell screen

"Purple screen of death" approx every 6-8 hours of useage.

As an aside, if anyone knows how to access the "useful"/"recommended" message in a thread on this discussion board, please let me know. I don't want to browse through all the answers ...

Having the same problem as all of you.
- turning monitor sleep to "never" did NOT solve the problem
- updating to 10.6.7 did NOT solve the problem.

I don't understand why do we users have to figure out a way to solve this problem, instead of Apple? Apparently this line of Macbook Pros is faulty. Whenever I go to a service provider they tell me they find nothing wrong. frustrating.
They should provide some special return program for this issue.

Wow. Happy to find this thread, if not to console me after labouring to find a solution to this problem:

I have been experiencing the following for about five weeks:

- main screen goes black, external monitor goes black, LCD projector goes black after computer appears to go to sleep.
- the sleep light remains a steady white rather than pulsate.

I've performed the following:

- reset the PRAM
- reset the SMC
- backed up and reinstall OS after doing a clean install
- updated the system using the combo installer for 10.6.7. (I had the 10.6.4. installer that came with my Mac)

I had contacted Apple Support and they advised me to do the first two (i.e., PRAM, SMC). Apparently, I no longer had the free 90-day phone support, so I said I would try to reinstall the OS to see if I experienced the same issues.

It's Monday, and my MacBook Pro JUST experienced the black screen of death.

Oh, I should add that my machine has had several kernal panics upon restart or when the machine has been left on for a while (I don't tend to shut down my Macs). The last kernal panic occurred when my machine had not been connected to an external display leading me to believe that all these forced-restarts corrupted my system.

So, it's another call to Apple and a request for a logic board replacement.

Hi everyone, I have the new MacBook Pro 13.3" i5 2.3GHz Early 2011 and the Moshi HDMI Adapter.

Until today I was able to use my LG M2362D 23" screen with the adapter just fine.

After Installing today's update and firmwire, I can't connect correctly MBP with the screen.

Either I get a pink screen, no signal, "noise" in the screen, nothing but problems unfortunately.

And I repeat, until today no problems whatsoever. Something in the Update causes the problem.

It's been almost a year and I struggle to understand why there hasn't been a response from Apple on this? Let alone a fix.

I've tried all the solutions recommended. My last option is to contact Apple Support, but from the previous horror stories I'm reluctant to do so (especially because I'm not living in the UK anymore).

I'm a freelance designer, and I can't afford to not have my laptop with me - so sending it off for repair really has to be the last resort.

Please, just a response. Even if it is "Take it to your local Apple dealer". Enough is enough.

Pete.

Same issue here. MBP 15" from mid-april 2010 plug to a 23" Asus monitor with the Apple mini-desplay port. Was fine for 6 months, then from no where and so randomly, the black screen of the death. Tried everything that is here on this forum...

Brought it the Apple store, argued 20 min and showing one story on this thread so the Genius would agree to change the motherboard. It was fine for 4 months and since 1 month it is happening again, despite the software updates. I am pretty sure though it is hardware issue as I'm using Win XP on dual boot and it is also doing the same, crash but on the Windows blue screen...

Only solution would be to change the MBP completely and hope for a non faulty one... ****.

I've had similar issues over the past month with black screen of death when using an external monitor or even using powerpoint. Weirdly it would mostly happen when I use stacks or powerpoint.

First time I went to the Apple store and left it overnight for a diagnositic test and came back with nothing. Then I realised it was the external monitor issue and found this thread so I decided to take it back to the store, show them this thread and luckily was able to mimic the black screen of death without the external monitor.

I claimed that it was the logic board problem and they fixed it overnight (even they said 7 days), which was nice. So far everything's running great. I tried to make it crash by using the usual thing that did make it crash and it's healthy and alive.

So my cure was replacing the logic board.

Hope that helped!
