MBP13‘3 and External Monitor Problem (screen goes pink/ laptop hangs)

I just got my MacBook Pro 13'3 2.4 GHz, 4gb, deliveried today, I brought a MiniDisplay to VGA adaptor along with it.

When I connect the external Display to VGA adaptor, first of all, both monitors are fine, after few mintues( maybe display go to sleep mode), laptops hangs both screen go to pink/purple color. Keyboard and Mouse not responding anymore, have to shutdown the laptop by holding down the power button.

Does any one have this problem, is this a Hardware flaw or OS?

thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3), MacBook Pro 13'3 2.4 GHz, 4gb

I have an MBP that we got in July 2010 which also has this problem. I have Windows 7 on a BootCamp which has almost no software installed on and that exhibited exactly the same problem - so looking more than likely hardware or firmware - I think it is unlikely that both the WIn7 drivers AND SnowLeopard drivers exhibit exactly the same problem...

However, I am seeing a pattern - I have a bunch of monitors that I am trying and, so far I have tried a brand new Samsung 1920x1200 and a newish HP 1920x1200 which both cause the crash. But at the moment I am on a 17" HP (1280x1024) without the problem so maybe it is related to the total number of pixels. Maybe bus bandwidth or memory usage - going to test a couple more and see where that goes...

HP w2448hc (1920x1200) fails almost immediately. What seems interesting is that it doesn't matter how long the monitor is plugged in - it seems to be related to how long the laptop has been running so I winder if there is some service that gets started after some time looking at the displays...

Anyway - running the 1920x1200 monitor at 1280x1024 seems fine so it definitely seems to be a bandwidth issue!

I've got a 13" MacbookPro 7,1 that's exhibiting the same pink screen + hang issues. Looking at the logs, it's definitely some sort of Nvidia issue, as the exact same time that I get the hang, I get this in my system log:
kernel NVDA(OpenGL): Channel timeout!

This log entry has been reported in many other threads, and even for older MBPs. I hope Apple figures out some sort of software/firmware fix ASAP. As an aspiring Apple developer, giving them my computer for 7 days isn't exactly convenient.

Glad to come across this thread. I didn't realize at first that it appears to be a problem with using an external monitor. In my case the MBP screen goes black and the external monitor goes white.

My monitor supports both dvi and vga. The older MB had a digital adapter but I had only vga for the new MBP. Using it required a different cable, of course. Today I have been using the computer with the same adapter but a different vga cable. So far (1 hour) no crashes. I'm going to get a dvi adapter to try that next since the "good" vga cable is borrowed.
