Safari not opening Home page at start-up

I have several Leopards on 733 MHz G4s and they all take several hours to repair permissions. I looked into this shortly after my first Leopard install and others with slow G4s reported similar times. I have always assumed that this is the time it takes to check all ACLs on the boot volume. What is your slowest Mac with Leopard and how long does it take?

That is interesting. I have a relatively unused partition - I will try repairing permissions and see how long it takes.

It took 16 minutes. Whilst this volume had fewer files (217,00 compared with my normal 303,000) it confirms your point - many thanks.

I will see if I can resolve the long times experienced by my other G4s/volumes. I wish I understood what is going on here especially as the link you gave advises two back to back installs without an intermediate permissions repair - there must be a simpler way to clear ACLs and regenerate them.

All volumes now take between 15 and 30 minutes except the original one which now takes 3.5 hours despite a double dose of 10.5.8 combo without an intermediate permissions repair. I assume this is what the other complicated thread said I should do. Perhaps it will not be possible to cure this volume without a total reinstall.
