Best codec to use in MPEG Streamclip

I know this subject has probably been covered (in excruciating detail?) but could some one just summarize what is the best codec to use. I have some DVDs of school plays and concerts that I want to edit together in FCP. When I went to export to Quicktime, I almost fell out of my chair at all the choices. I figured out what ones I didn't want to use but I an confused about ProRes422 (LT, plain, HD), ProRes Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2, and DVCPRO50-NTSC. Thanks very much.
