How do I make a 'cents' symbol (¢) on the iPad?

I've learned how to evoke cool symbols on the iPad like curly quotes, em dashes and signs for currency like the pound, yen, etc., but I can't figure out how to evoke the symbol for U.S. cents (¢), which is easy on the Mac (option-4), but I can't find it on the iPad? I hoped that holding down the "$" key would uncover it, but alas, no.

Any tips?

G

(I had to type this topic on the mac so i could evoke the ¢ symbol)

i'm disappointed that the symbol ₵ isn't to be found, considering there are many symbols (like ł § ₩ į „) that are much less used than the cents sign and yet are easy to evoke on the iPad.

You can let Apple know here:

A potentially worse omission from the keyboard is the ` character (grave accent, U+0060), which is part of the standard ascii character set and can easily wind up in generated passwords.

It's not there. Just like on a mac keyboard or windows keyboard you have to hit a special key sequence to generate it (as you mentioned).

The proper notation would be .25 instead of 25¢

I guess a while ago people decided to do away with the cent notation (maybe it confused people ????).

Is there a shortcut for the "_" (underbar)?

A trend a decade or so ago pressed me to use it in things like user ID's and this is a pain to manage now.

Any quick 'flick' stroke like someone found with the "'" (single quote) by using a flick up of the '!' (exclamation point)?

I spent a few minutes easter egging and found it not...

what Keyboard language are you using?

And in what context are you trying to get the symbol?

It won't work if you are in the url field in Safari for instance because urls don't accept other currency symbols except the $ sign.

Other than that the cent symbol is under the $ sign key when you hold it down for a moment.

I'm using the English (Canada) keyboard (although I checked the emoji board as well).

Since you seemed so surprised, I decided to load other English keyboards for comparison. It isn't on either of the English (Canada) or the English (UK) keyboard. It is only on the "generic" (i.e., "US") keyboard.

Why would that be?

Shall we call it US-centrism or xenophobia?

OF COURSE, in Canada, we just eliminated the penny from our circulating currency, so I guess we don't really need it anymore anyway, right? 😉

I also had the same problem finding the 'cent' key.. On my iPad, I went to 'General' then 'International' and set the 'Region Format' from Canada to 'United States'. Then when you hold down the '$' key, you will also get the cent symbol. Doesn't matter which english keyboard you use, that is the only way to get the cent key.

Hope that helps

now I am wondering what is meant by easter egging ? Have only a vague idea ( I am last to latch onto any new technology that comes out ) I did not own DVDS or a player until they had been existing for a long long time. I recall one time , hearing that easter eggs were secret extras on the DVDs that if you pressed a button at certain times, you'd see them. But, when I asked around after finally acquiring Dvds and player for them, nobody knew what I was talking about.

so, should I assume that still does exist , and with Apple products.

I am already embarrassed to admit the above but feel free to tease me about it.😊

If you want to type the cents symbol (¢) just go into settings- then general- then keyboard- then short cuts- then add a shortcut- paste the (¢) into the phrase spot and make your shortcut whatever you want. I suggest using something like c/ just because it looks like the (¢) symbol

PS. I used my iPad to type this without any copy and paste
