How many times did you have to hold both buttons down before it started working? I have tried 3 times and still nothing. Also tried to plug in the charger at the same time. (Got my ipad 5 months ago, used it only once, then it has not been used at all during 4 months as I was traveling). Help!!
You are posting to an old thread but maybe I can help.
You must be sure that your battery has sufficient power or resetting the device isn't going to work so charge your battery for at least 30 minutes if you think the battery is very low. The reset is performed by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen - ignore the red slider bar - let go of the buttons.
You have to wait until the Apple logo appears on the screen. It could take up to 30 seconds from what I have read. But if the logo doesn't show up after 30 seconds, this fix is not going to work for you. You may need to restore your device via iTunes.
You can read bout restoring here.
Gosh haven't even been using mine for a month yet and it went dead after I turned it on and left it in my car before coming back for it in less than 30 min. Thank God manage to revive it using the home start method suggested in this forum. Seems so many have experienced the same thing! Could it be due to overcharging? I charge my iPad nearly every night even though there is still about 60% power left... And some times I just let it charge overnight!
If it happened out of the blue I wouldn't sweat it. It could be any number of things that caused it. If it starts occurring with frequency that's another story.
I charge my iPad every night - all night long. I don't think that has anything to do with what happened to you.
Thanks to you all, thought we might have to take it to service agent, but pressing the Home and Off button together as many have said fixed it. But took 20 secs though, powered up with Apple symbol. Think the problem is that I have been in the habit of letting the iPad powered until low battery is indicated, perhaps not a good idea. Will charge when it gets down to 30% in future.
Holding the buttons worked Like magic..... thanks all....
