Mac serial number missing after main logic board replacement!?

After replacing the main logic board on a 15-days old brand new iMac G5 2 GHz 20-inch TFT, the computer serial number no longer shows on" Apple ()/About this Mac" or on "System Profiler/Hardware Overview/Serial number".

As far as I know that is normal, but my question is: is there a way to show the serial number (old or new) again? Resetting the Firmware perhaps?

Thanks,

PowerMac G4 (AGP)/500, Mac OS X (10.4.2)

That is abnormal.

When a logic board is replaced with the proper procedures, a new machine serial number has to be displayed on the System Profiler and About This Mac (Version --> Build --> Serial Number). You need to return the computer to Apple to fix it.

I do NOT recommend to troubleshoot by DIY for the internal battery to remove/reinstall or PRAM/NVRAM, or the SMU reset this time.

Check whether a new Ethernet MAC address is displayed on Network Utility-- Info for Network Interface (en0).

When a service provider in the field receives a logic board from Apple, there is no number assigned to the board. Ask your local AASP or Apple Specialist.

Apple's repair depots, on the other hand, have the ability to transfer serial numbers. This was the source of my original confusion, as I was only thinking about that scenario.

Taking your iMac to Bob's Mac Shop for repair? No serial number.

Sending your PowerBook to Apple for repair? It will return with your original serial burned into the board.
