Battery percentage indicator inaccurate.

My iPhone has started reporting the battery level as being approxmiately 30% higher than it actually is. The result of which being that when the iPhone drops below about 40%, it doesn't have enough power to carry on, and so cuts out. As the hardware "thinks" that the battery level is high enough to perform the task, the iPhone doesn't turn off safely but simply dies.

I have attempted to reset, then drain completely and fully recharge the battery in an attempt to reset the battery meter, but this has failed. I have also restored the iPhone, but again this has not solved my problem. Is there a solution I'm missing, or would it be worth contacting Apple for service?

Thanks,
Alex

You've done everything you can do. If under warranty, make an appointment at an Apple store. The geniuses have equipment that can tell instantly whether your battery is good or bad.

You're welcome.

The only other thing you could try is restoring your phone as a "new" device in itunes and not from backup. All saved data on the phone will be lost. However, I suspect this won't make a difference, but might be worth a try. Doing this will eliminate corrupt data on your phone as a possible cause of the problem. I'd still make an appointment at an Apple store.
