Stolen Ipad

Today may 29th 2010 My Ipad was stolen from my car,its less than 10 days old.I was at the mall where they have an apple store>I confidently walked back into the mall heading to the apple store knowing for a fact that apple will help me and the police(i filed a police report) to locate the stolen Ipad since it has a built in GPS and i have the serial number. They furiously refused and very coldly and carelessly said that they do not do that and they dont even have any database for stolen apple products and they will not track my ipad what so ever.I sware to god they did not even say sorry for my loss. Here iam walking to the apple store with all confident and hope only to face the harsh fact that really they didn't care.Eventhough they can help and they can track and they have the capability to but they wont. Worse thing is it isn't my ipad and i have to pay for new one now that i cant afford.Thank you Apple.

umm, PC gamers tend to build their own systems, but thanks for playing...

also, Apple didn't file for bankruptcy in 2001, again, thanks for playing...

if I recall correctly, I believe the only the MacBook battery firmware controller was hacked...

Do you know how much people can get in student loans, or maybe their parents paid for the computer (like mine did for my sister)? Do you know how much a graphic artist makes? I freelance on the side and make anywhere from $500-$10000 for a logo (depending if they want exclusive rights to a custom font or not) and it takes me somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 hours to complete a low end logo... that's pretty good pay... many executive teams of Fortune 500 companies have either begun using Macs, or are getting ready to... This leads to a trickle down effect. I live in a very affluent area, and everyone I know uses Macs.

Also, market data from 2009 is almost 3 years old. In this age, that is an eternity.

As far as virii, you probably know nothing of Gatekeeper. Look it up. Also, Patch Tuesday occurs monthly from Microsoft. Apple issues updates very rarely...

That Apple applied for bankruptcy in 2001 is a verifiable fact. Go google it for yourself.

You are going to get responses like this when you post inane misstatements such as "Apple filed for bankruptcy in 2001."

But it's on the internet so it must be true...User uploaded file

Wait...

I can't find that on the internet. 😁

They have every opportunity to prove me wrong, but instead of providing anything remotely resembling any evidence, much less proof, they resort to heckling and juvenile insults. Nyaaaa-nya-nya-nyaaaaaa-nya!

OT: Who was it again who said something like "Better to keep your mouth shut and have the world think you a fool than to open it and immediately prove them all correct.."?

I was setting outside of Belks at Triangle Town Center in Raleigh,NC when a black guy took mine right out of my hands. We chased him but could not catch him, he ran through Belks and out the back door and through the parking lot, Three more people tried to catch him but couldn't but they did get the tag number and make and color of the car he got away in. Called the polic and gave the offcer the information it has been two weeks no Ipad or arrest yet. The Mall could care less they never called or return my calls. A company that handle there complaints call and ask was I hurt. So if you thank a GPS is going to help you find your Ipad forget it. The detective call and told me he had forty cases and mine was on the bottom. He did say he had talked to the mother that own the car, she has two sons but the officer couldn't lcate them. During the theft my son found my Ipad on his Iphone I told the officers and an hour and half later the officer call and said he was going to check it out. No help. Mainly the police want to know if you have insurance, I do but it is five hundred dollars deductable and my insurance would go up next year. Don't take anything this expensive out of your house, It may not be safe there either.

What if the person who took my ipad tried to reboot it? Will I still be able to track it?

Rebooting (that really just means turning it off and turning it back on again) should not affect your ability to track it. However, if the device isn't connected to a network or if they restore it (wipe it back to factory settings), you won't be able to track it.

Just thought I'd throw this in from today's Wall Street Journal. It doesn't help with wi-fi only, but if you have a device connected to a carrier (meaning 3G at this point), they're working on a database to prevent stolen devices from being re-activated by someone else. It's not perfect, but it could help decrease the number of thefts of these types of devices.
