Unibody Outer Case Damage

Hi,

before putting my 4 month old Unibody 15" Macbook Pro in my bag this morning, i placed it on my bed so i could open my bag which was on the floor. The laptop slid off, and the front right corner hit the floor. The corner of the case has bent towards the middle of the keyboard on the underside ever so slightly, and now the the bottom panel sticks out from the top casing.

I understand, even though i payed a lot of money for AppleCare, that they probably won't cover this.. but how much would it cost to get repaired and do you think it would come under House and Contents insurance?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Josh King.

The good news is its Aluminum and it can be easily repaired vs. buying a new bottom case. If you are the DIY type, its just a matter of taking the MacBook Pro completely apart....removing the LCD, logic board, etc. Once removed you can use a rounded piece of plastic and work out the dent. Be sure to support the case to prevent torquing while you do this. If you dont have any plastic tools you can make one out of ABS plastic...roughly a 3/4" square dowel that has been routed on three of four sides to match the corner. Then with a rubber mallet ... and a soft touch... you can bang out the dent much like removing a dent from a car.

If you need help with a DIY repair or you want info on a replacement part, you can find me at http://www.macsupergenius.com. I have seen the rear cases used on eBay for $81 and up. Good luck.

"I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.
