Installing Boot Camp 3.1

I have a couple of questions about installing Windows 7 on my MacBook - first of all when I launched the Boot Camp Assistant it did not mention anything about Windows 7, I checked the version number and it said it was 3.0.1, I know that 3.1 added Windows 7 support but could not figure out how to upgrade to that version?

Also, I have a MacBook2,1, am I right in thinking that this will only support Windows 32-bit?

Thanks,
Matt

The version 3.1 is meant to be the BootCamp Windows Drivers Apple provides.
The version of the BootCamp Assistant is not relevant.
The 3.0 version of the BootCamp Windows Dirvers is on the Snow Leopard OSX Install DVD and the 3.1 driver version can be downloaded here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL996 (32-bit) or http://support.apple.com/kb/DL979 (64-bit).

Apples list of supported Mac with 64-bit Windows 7 is here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846 and doesn't list any MacBooks at all.
However, some people have had success installing 64-bit Windows 7 and the 64-bit BootCamp Drivers when doing the driver install 'by hand'.

But unless you have more than 4GB of RAM and/or have 64-bit Windows programs to run, I would suggest to stay with 32-bit Windows 7.

Thanks,
Matt

Hope it helps

Stefan

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

the BootCamp Installation Guide has the correct sequence:

1. use the BootCamp Assistant in OSX to partition the harddisk
2. install Windows from the WIndows CD/DVD
3. while in Windows install the BootCamp Driver from the OSX Snow Leopard install DVD
4. while in Windows install the BootCamp Driver 3.1 Update
5. (if neccessary) while in Windows install further driver updates

.exe files are Windows (MS-DOS) executable files which of course do not run in OSX.

Regards

Stefan
