I had the same issue, hair dryer worked for me, I tried puttig a protector screen using soapy water and
Speaker died on me, called apple the guy on phone said they need to replace it After Inspecting for water damage, that basically killed all my hope for a new iPad, so tried the old Hair Dryer thing, IT WORKED.
Wow. Glad I found this thread. I had no idea the soft mute feature was turned on, and I was stumped by how I could hear sound in headphones, but not through the speakers even when all other settings made it look like sound was on and turned up.
Thanks for pointing this out King Penguin and Mikey8888!
Just made my morning!
I've had my iPad 2 for less than a month (duh) and only noticed recently that non-Apple apps weren't playing audio through the internal speakers. (iPod and Garageband both must ignore the soft mute setting, and I mostly listened to apps through headphones anyhow.)
But when I attempted to listen to the Al Gore audio book "Our Choice" through speakers I realized I wasn't hearing anything without headphones. And then I realized speaker audio wasn't working in Air Video either.
After reading all the above, I did the following:
1. Ran Settings
2. Switched the Side Switch from Lock Rotation to Mute
3. Toggled the side switch a couple of times
4. Double clicked the Home Button and locked rotation that way
Now audio works again. I suppose it _was_ a feature.
In my case an easy fix was to lightly blow into headphones jack. Than was it - the sound is back. I guess some dust got in there.
Mikey8888, thank you! Didn't even know about the soft mute feature but that just fixed my sound issue.
Ok I just had the same problem and figured out a solution that happened to work for me. Hopefully it'll work for you too.
First double tap the home button to bring up the dock.
Then scroll all the way to the left until you see the ipod controls.
The very first icon is the volume mute button. Mine was set to mute and nothing I did in the settings got the sound back, however pressing the little speaker icon and thus removing the disable icon returned my sound.
I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I turned my mute hardware slider on the side of the ipad to lock rotation function and therefor left it in a mute state.
This seems to be a bit of a glitch and hopefully will be fixed with a software update.
Hope this helps!!
Bobby
I was suffers by same problem as you discussed in this forum. I was using Skype then after few moments I didn't feel any sound specially in games, pod-cats and rings were ok but any other sound not working. So spec lily thanks to Dan bryk. Thanks friend I resolve my problem which I was going crazy it's just simple thing
1 RUN SETTINGS
2 go to general
3 use side switch to: MUTE
4 turn on and off side switch 1 or 2 times
5 run any game or application in mute setting then off side switch.
6 problem resolved thanks.
Perfect, this did it for me !
Thanks a lot !
I tried this way. Put it on dock and restart, nothing happens.
I still have this problem in my iPhone, i just could check it out, because i have some
airport express in my home, so when i tried to change the source of sound, it appears
"dock connected".
I tried too, restore original firmware, maybe it should be a software problem, but no sucess.
Still the same, so i don't know what to do, my cellphone never been to water.
Just machine/hardware problem.
It may sound funny but this is what I had to do to fix the same problem. Flip up the mute button on the side of the ipad, right above the volume button. That's all it was, accidentally flipped down. Cheers
If i put my iPhone at dock it l,ays sounds.
If i remove from dock, it stops playing loud and appears as "dock coonect".
So it is working contrary!
