How does the preorder work?

Also, what time on the 15th is ordering enabled online: 12:01 am, for example? Does the east coast get a head start over us west coast folks, or will it be at the same equivalent time for everyone?

Also, I will still be able to use my 3g as an ipod touch sort of device when I activate the new 4. But will I be able to have the apps I have paid for (and the free ones, too) available on both the 3g and the 4, or will I have to repurchase them for use on a second device?

2-3 months? Not hardly.

If you pre-order on the 15th, the order should be delivered on the 24th - on the day the iPhone is available at retail outlets - Apple stores, AT&T corporate stores, Best Buy stores, etc.

Not sure about this. On the day the iPhone is available at retail locations - such as beginning at 6:00 PM, it is local time in each time zone. 6PM in each time zone.

There is no device limit for the number of iPods, iPhones, and iPads that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer, which includes 3rd party apps for the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.

Hello all, great information! I have a question, can you pre order and pick up the iPhone at your closest ATT or Apple store on the 24th?

Can I pre-order for both my wife and I and pick up at the apple store? Basically, will they allow me to pick up her phone as well if it's my name on the credit card used to pre-order and the primary name on the AT&T account? I'd have them shipped, but my area is notorious for packages getting stolen and my wife doesn't get off work until too late to go. Thanks.

The package will not be left at your door - someone must be there to sign for the delivery, which is no different when ordering any Apple hardware and which is usually the same for software. I believe you will be able to pre-order an iPhone at an Apple store if there is one nearby and when doing so, the iPhone will be delivered to the store reserved in your name.

Thank you Allan. That poses the problem of not being home when they come to deliver. I know I can preorder and pick up my iPhone from the Apple store, but can I preoder and pick up one for my wife as well? We are on the same plan, or does she have to go and pick it up?

If both iPhones ordered with the same Apple ID and credit card, you can pick both iPhones up and especially if you are listed as the AT&T account holder for both numbers.

Excellent! Thank you again! This will make things much easier. Especially since I hope to surprise my wife with the new iPhone. She doesn't know they changed the upgrade availability dates so she thinks she has to wait for October for hers while I'd be getting mine now.

I am currently not the primary account holder for my phone on AT&T but my name is on the bill. My mother is the primary due to us having a family plan. Under my number though it says that I am on the account. Do you think I will have trouble with pre ordering the Iphone4 on the 15th or will everything be ok? Also do you have any knowledge on if stores like AT&T or Best Buy will be doing pre orders on the 15th?

As long as you are listed as an additional account holder, no problem. Are you able to make a change to the account such as going from a limited messaging plan to an unlimited, etc.? If so, you are listed as an additional account holder. If not, your Mother will need to contact AT&T to add you as one.

I'm not sure about an AT&T corporate store or a Best Buy store taking pre-orders beginning on the 15th, but I don't see why not.

I assume that if order volume means stock is depleted early on the 15th (e.g. cannot support the 24th delivery any longer), the preorders will be declined once that happens...?

Do you have any idea if Apple will be taking pre orders starting at 12:01 AM on the 15th? Also it will be available to pre order online correct? How is it when ordering it online? Is the website very slow due to all the orders being placed at one time?
