How does the preorder work?

I'm assuming that the preorder for the iPhone 4 will work the same way as other preorders have, for the 3GS, the 3G, etc. Do you have to pay the entire sum when you preorder it, a portion of it, or is it just like a reserve?
Thank you for clearing this up for me!

What information is required when i preorder...

You will need the last 4 digits of her social security #. It wouldn't hurt to have the account # just in case but I'm not sure if you need it.

If you are eligible for AT&T's fully subsidized or discounted price, the price is the same regardless where the iPhone is purchased - at an AT&T store, at an Apple store, at a Best Buy, at a Walmart, or at Radio Shack.

When pre-ordering the iPhone, you select as an existing AT&T subscriber along with entering your AT&T cell phone number with area code. Your account is checked with AT&T in regards to your upgrade eligibility to determine the price to be charged for the pre-order. This would be no different if you didn't pre-order and arrived at any of the retailers where the iPhone is available on or after the 24th to purchase a new iPhone. One of the first questions you would be asked if not the first question is are you an existing AT&T subscriber and if so, what is your cell phone number with area code to determine if you qualify for AT&T's fully subsidized or discounted price for the price to be charged for the iPhone.
